Ankles

Mine is still a little sore after drunk stumbling off a curb last week. Thoughts and prayers appreciated.

Candles lit, Gemini.....best wishes for a speedy recovery.....

The ironic thing is that when Braden landed on the ref's foot, one of my regular customers who is a basketball ref on the side was at our betting counter. I glared at him.
Was it Tim Donaghy? Lol

i was very surprised they brought him back in and let him play. Especially given the non-critical aspect of the game.
Is this more current medical advise (keep it loose) versus sit, elevate and ice?

I thought Braden was tentative especially on that floater in the 2nd half, luckily he got the rebound and made the 3 on the play. From the time they both twisted their ankles I was nervously watching how fluid they played. But 4 days of therapy hope they will be good. 3 games in 3 days does make me nervous

Probably. RICE is falling out of favor as conventional wisdom. Careful movement is better.

I think he should sit out the money-grubbing btn tournament just to be on the safe side.

Was going to say, Chi never told us he knew Courtney Green!
There actually was a "list" of college refs, football and basketball, that were being investigated about 18 months ago or so. I can't remember all the specifics, but I recognized 2 or 3 of them. Never encountered any of them at my place though.

We don't know how bad, and not sure what current is. However years ago the thought was don't take the shoe off, tighten the strings a bit and see if you can go and it loosen up. Then cold first 24 hours and then rotate hot and cold while trying to work the ankle a bit. Although both were concerning when we saw both laying on the court they both played after and so that was a good sign. Today, I'm sure they stiffened up a bit, but the trainers will work on them this week. I don't know whether Matt is like Gene in that all players are taped before practice or games. I doubt it. Unfortunately, the ankles will always be weaker as a result

It's all money-grubbing. Not sure why the BTT is singled out?
I remember when the Big started the tourney. 1) chance for more teams to get in. 2) get kids mentally ready for one loss and go home. Either ACC, but maybe Big East was a reference for the push. IN 1982-83 NC State was 17-10 before winning three in the ACC tourney and then 6 more in the NCAA tourney where they were carried by guards who had played together since grade school (?) before Whittenburg's (sp?) short shot that Lorenzo (?) dunked after sending the athletes lacking in FT shooting to the line .

It would not bother me at all to not have a Big tourney, but if it is there allow the players to win it.

Oh, there is no question the reason the B1G started having a Tournament was $$. I'm just saying the whole season and the dance are all about $$ too. No reason to set Smith from the BTT then any other time. It's all about money, and has been for a very long time.

I think Houston was up eight when Valvano started fouling, and the Cougars kept missing. I'd have to go back and look, but I think they fouled again when it was tied to get the last possession....don't quote me on that.

Thurl Bailey was underrated, IMO - also was a beast at times for those Jazz teams in the '80s...

I was only talking about the btt, but yes, all the others also.

I would far prefer to have the ncaat add one week for a total of ~ 280 teams. Almost like the iconic IHSAA tournament of Milan fame.

Agree, but err on the side of caution when it comes to injuries. That means more minutes for others, who can be counted on to 'play hard' in the Mean Gene tradition.

Three games in three days, ending on Sunday, is a disadvantage for a team that draws a Thursday game in the ncaat against a team that has been off since the prior Friday or Sat - and then against a team in a second round game that was well rested coming into the ncaat.

We saw a bit of that in the last game. A scare with two players and some other players getting some more time. This is a tough one in that you want to win, but you would like to get a few more minutes for others. Winning with more players makes for better practice and attitudes going forward. During the Wisconsin game Kim started getting nervous and I just told her that Matt killed a bit of momentum, but it will be okay. Some players were getting in the game earlier and longer. It is a tough balancing act because a game can flip quickly and you are still trying to refine the team...and nothing is ever final or not needing worked on. Three games in three days is a lot and so you hope the team jumps out and gets others minutes. Probably the team will have some rust playing the first game against a team that probably has one game played and may not be tired until the last 25% of the Purdue game. I don't know whether the Midwest plays Friday/Sunday or Thursday/Saturday...but a Friday Sunday would help.

This is an old video, but you know this guy wants another ring to balance out his hands ;)

I thought it was interesting how early he brought in Myles. And his defensive effort really showed why. If it's clicked "on" for him like it has Heide that bodes very very well. Guessing we'll see a lot of them in the next few games. :)
Man, I really love Mason and what he brings to this team. He is so much more valuable than the points and rebounds.
That's a really nice swing~! Powerful. Looks like he's got a gun too.

At the very least all should be on a minute restriction “ aka pitch count “. We are deep enough to win with 25 minutes max to everyone
I would have no issue with a 30 minute cap. It wouldn’t hurt to give Jones some extended work running the team and I like the idea of getting more minutes to Colvin, Furst, Morton, and Heide heading into the NCAA Tournament.

It is hard to specify minutes, but understand the desire. Many times that team playing their first game is hit with a buzz saw from another team that played the day before. So far if Lance has the ball on top it is just seconds away to pass to Braden to get into the meat of the offense. I have to believe that Matt has worked Lance running the offense which can be good for a couple of reasons. 1) most obvious losing Braden in some way 2) moving Braden to more of a shooting role on a few sets 3)potentially taking away the best defender on the ball from the opposition. We haven't seen Braden struggle, but if he had a certain guard that really made it tough to get into the offense, that defender cannot defend both as long as they keep some spacing apart. You would like to see those players some minutes in the middle of each half. Even if they didn't score, but held the opposition and played with energy requiring the same from the opposition it would help. Course this is most desirable to obtain in the second game if it were to only happen in one game.
