Honestly, did you think Purdue was going to make some stellar run to the Final Four or past Kentucky even? What would have honestly made you happy with this tourney? Just a win against Cinncy, who is probably one of the top 3 or 4 defensive teams in the country? Or would you have only been happy winning the entire tourney? Would you have bitched and moaned if (and probably when), Kentucky blasted us by 25-30 (hell, they manhandled Kansas).

Grow up! There is much more to life than Purdue Basketball. Many of you fail to realize that there are much more important things you could be doing rather than always wasting your time (and ours) on calling for Painter to be fired on a message board that literally carries NO WEIGHT IN THAT DECISION AT ALL!!! Unless you are a million dollar donor to the University, you aren't going to be heard or even taken seriously.

Get a grip and try waiting 24-48 hours before posting again because your charade is getting quite old.

And honestly, the coaches out there that are better than Coach Painter aren't coming to West Lafayette and you would have to take a stab at a guy who is from the lower ranks. That plan is still under consideration with the football program (although I'm willing to give him 4 full years before really passing judgement).

I think Painter helped himself should he be looking for another job. He took a young team to a 3rd. place finish in the Big ten and also with a good enough record to play in the ncaa tourment. 200 plus wins in 10 years how many coaches have done that?

This isn't the first time though. Painter team have a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. So many times have painters team fail against the press, miss crucial ft, and let teams back in the game. Losing this game has cemented this fact to me. Painter couldn't win a national championship with Kentuckys players.

Speaking of not knowing the game....

I'm with you OP.

Does anyone think it's realistic for Purdue to get to a position where we contend for a National Championship every year, the way just a few teams like UK, Duke, Arizona, & Kansas do? With any coach who would be willing to come to West Lafayette? With the recruiting environment that Purdue has to deal with?

I would love for the Boilermakers to be one of those teams, but even if Purdue won the NC, would we become one of those teams? There' s a slight chance, but I don't think so - alas, the world does not think of Purdue that way.

That said, I think we can raise our profile by just winning games & being visible in the top 25 a lot more often again. Wisconsin has been mentioned as a good model for us to try to emulate, and I don't disagree. We need to find "Purdue guys", mostly from the regional talent pool, though sometimes from elsewhere, and coach them up. I think Coach Painter learned from the recent down years due to chemistry problems, and we're on an upward trajectory again. I support him and the team. Boiler Up!

The biggest reason Matt should be given a long term contract is the response of his players after the game. These kids had heart, character and they left it all out on the court. I am so proud of each of them. More importantly than how they develop on the court is how they develop off the court.

Both teams played physical and hard, but I was shocked about the foul calls in the first half. The idiot broadcasters said that this had to do with taking the ball to the rim, BUT it was Purdue who was scoring in the paint. The broadcasters said how Ellis was involved in the Xavier fiasco and how he matured and they took him back. Is this the type of ballplayer Purdue wants?

I would rather have players I can root for than a team that goes to the Final Four, even though both would be nice.

This. But for some people, the only duty of the players and coaches is to win to provide fulfillment in the lives of the fans. Nothing else matters.

Leaving it all on the court only matters if it results in a win, which makes me, as a fan, feel significant by association. (TIC)

This thread is asinine. Is anyone really calling for Painter to be fired because of last night? I know I'm not. I am calling for it based on a 10 year body of work that includes 2 sweet 16's and 1 SHARED B1G Championship. That is mediocrity. Painter is not a terrible coach, but he will never be more than mediocre. I've been ready to move on for a few years now. This didn't just start yesterday. However, I (and some others) gave it a break while the season was playing out to see what Painter could do and support the team (I had dozens of posts throughout the season supporting Purdue basketball). Now that the season is over, I will do what I think supports them the most in getting to a final 4 and ultimately a National Championship. Make a change at the top! It won't happen under CMP.

A blind man can see that painter won't be able to make it pass the sweet 16 let alone to a f4 if his team can't inbound the ball break the press and hit free throws. Because that is what happens in the tourney.

Yall can have your moral victory of making the tourney. I want to actually win the thing in my lifetime. I bet few teams have won it all that close out a game like purdue had the past 4 to 5 times we have been to the tourney.

Either coaching is poor to the point purdue can't freaking win with a 7 pt lead with freaking 47 ticks left or talent selection is bad. None of this falls on the players it's a freaking purdue custom at this point.

By that token the players lose every game. He wasn't the one setting up crap defense? He wasn't the one that allowed the other team to draw up a freaking play to tie the game. He wasn't the one teaching these kids to break a press (that's obvious). But yeah its the players fault because they missed 3 ft Dien the stretch.

You make some good points.I doubt seriously if Purdue would get a better replacement.

I think this is the fear. This is what it all boils down to. Fear. Some people are just too afraid to open the "Green Door". Fear change. Worried things can only get worse. Nail meet hammer.

How's it working out for the Football program so far?

Can't answer that as we have a coach trying to fix a mess the predecessor left behind. He's new, he gets a couple of more years since he didn't create that debacle. At least there was no fear, and I support Hopes firing. I'm not going to grade Hazell on Hopes players. Painter took us to the cellar, he did it. This isn't apples and apples. However, I've already stated I'm not for firing Painter right now.
