Martin has been successful recruit and coach. I don't care about the Keady tree or whatever, but Martin is a Purdue guy and I think he would be great here! He has recruited well here (baby boilers), he recruited well in tenn(5*), and he has recruited well in CAL. Worst case he gets us good players.

Because Collins is so successful. Just because you are working for a legend doesn't mean anything.
Isn't that what they are calling Gene Keady now, a legend? What makes the man a legend, 6 league titles in 25 years? Mediocrity has been boiled into the Purdue fan psyche for so long that that is all they expect. Collins comes from a successful program. Played and was an assistant coach for a man who has won 5 national titles.
People talking about we can't afford the buyout. Do you think Painter is just going to quit basketball? He will get another head coaching job probably a mill/year in another P5 conference! So that lowers his buyout by a million right? Lets face it hiring another football coach isn't going to magically make our team better! Which team has the better chance of doing something special with a new coach basketball or football?
We can't afford not to buy him out. We have a lot of great talent from the state of Indiana coming soon, how can we compete against MSU and others for their talent if we flame out of the tourney like we have last 2 years and they go to the final 4. They can find the money somewhere!
