Aidan played like the Aidan I remember from two years ago. Some high accurate billets but many questionable plays. How much do you believe this is the lingering rib injury? Some examples:
1. Had an INT on a bad throw but easily could have had 3-4 INTs. Threw into double coverage a lot
2. The first play of the game I put on him. He threw a 100 mph fastball back to Downing at his belly. This was my grief with him early on was his lack of touch
3. He seemed to hold onto the ball way too long
4. Seemed very reluctant on scrambles
5. Here’s the biggest. His last play of first half when Maryland was out of timeouts he essentially threw the ball away to avoid the sack. If he takes the sack we run the clock out and the half is over. Instead Maryland gets a TD. If we lose this game everyone would be pointing to this mistake.

Very good on what i saw as well. He is very hesitant. Like lingering injury. You dont have to have all world runner as qb but when its there has to at least get a few yards and slide. His slide even looked bad

Coverage. His first choice (Jones) was covered like stink on broadcast TV. Nice to see Rice emerge....as number 2?

Yeah, the news is out on Jones now and teams are making sure he's covered. He's obviously a really good receiver, but he isn't that elite receiver that is going to routinely beat the match ups.

There was a tuck and run that he tried, either in the 2nd or 3rd quarter, in which he lowered his shoulder, but seemed hesitant even to do that. He CANNOT be taking hits on scrambles and needs to slide or run out of bounds. It isn't that hard of a concept.

I think Maryland still had one time-out left on that 3rd down play before the half. I didn't like a route short of the sticks, but Purdue needed a first down to run out the clock.

I know Brohm gets torched for his clock management a lot (with plenty of justification at times), but IMO - it was the field position flip that killed the Boilers there along with the OL problems......we saw later on what might happen with a blind side sack of O'Connell.

I get the frustration, however. Aidan O'Connell has had his share of mistakes lately, and at times the pocket presence could be improved or at least more consistent. He's Purdue's best chance, though - hoping he continues to get healthier on an accelerated basis. The kid can play when he's right.

JMHO

In the end, it was a good win and escape for the Boilers in spite of many of us looking for sales on defibrillating equipment.
