AD announcement coming?

this hire is being complimented by many in the national sports media as a great move

His one football hire was at Akron?? WTH? Akron, Xavier... not exactly the football hotbeds I was hoping for. Yesterday I jokingly posted that I wasn't happy with the hire, now I'm seriously saying I don't like it. Maybe he will turn out to be the best AD we have ever had, but his experience isn't what I was hoping for.

Did Burke have FB experience when he hired Tiller?

Did he when he made the rest of his football hires?? I really don't think you want to use Burke as your example do you? If there was ever a case of the blind squirrel finding the nut it was MB.

Thanks for the info. I do like that he's not a Purdue guy as well, I just know nothing about him.

Uh oh. BBG and I are in agreement on something. Despite my other thread, I do like the fact that he's not affiliated with Purdue. I do like that he's from ND (I have a degree from ND as well) so maybe some of the expectations at ND will rub off on him at PU.

He's a Notre Dame grad (new AD)? I don't think the color chart lets you change Gold and Blue to Gold and Black in Indiana. It's instilled in their veins for life.

Just to follow up. I'm usually a very positive PU supporter and I try to stay that way no matter what happens. I just thought that with all the time we had to do our search we would hire someone with a rich football background.

I will say again, he may turn out to be the best AD ever. I was just hoping for a "football guy" and it looks like we got a Basketball guy.

Hey thanks for a new euphemism to describe Burke. At least it wasn't the classic, "a broken clock is right twice a day." This is a solid hire, regardless of the football credentials. The national media has gobbled this up & is touting the hire immensely. Why not wait and see what happens first before you go casting him off?

Please read the post I made right before yours. I think it clarifies my position. I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you over MB and his football hires. Tiller was a home run without question.

I was just hoping for big time football hire and was disappointed to see his previous stops. Hopefully he will get our football program turned around and leave here many years from now as a hero.

Boiler Up!!

I will withhold my judgment on this hire and get behind it. However, when all is said and done I am looking for 3 things:
1. Home run football coaching hire
2. Improved raising and allocation of funds
3. Keeping Purdue athletics away from major scandal

You can only change Gold and Blue to Red and vice-versa in the following counties:

St. Joseph
Monroe
Marion
Hamilton
Allen
Lawrence
Daviess
Morgan
Orange
Greene
Vanderburgh
Harrison
Scott
Bartholemew
Howard
Henry
Elkhart

How old is Bobinski? Yes, he did fire Brian Gregory at Georgia Tech this offseason and hired Josh Pastner. I will wait-and-see, but I'm glad he's not an "aw shucks", let's strive for the middle, Purdue-family hire.

ha ha. Well played. You're right though. TC4Three has got to be wringing his hands about 'change'.

I've wanted change for the football program since about halftime of Hazell's first game. I've wanted to change many of you from Purdue fans to something else for years. I like positive change. I'm just not a lottery ticket guy like you are.

Gregory never finished even .500 in the ACC in five years.

Not challenging you, but what national sites are you referring to? Everything I've read (CBS and USAToday) has been pretty silent as to an opinion and just stated facts pretty blandly.

Sounds like the opposite of a football focus hire. Hmm

reading GT comments, many are similar to the pro/cons we hear at PU

If I can project manage the design of a new centerline compressor rotor, I can also project manage the combustion design, or turbine, or structures. It's all project management. If he can figure how to search for, evaluate, and hire a good hoops coach, he can do it for football too. Smile. No need to crap all over him yet. We have years to do that.

Could be True. Not crapping on him, but more from the hire process talk and result I guess.

Just remimded me a bit of saying one thing but doing another again....
previously going to keep the QB tradition/aerial attack, but then went with DH2 and his opposite original scheme.

This. He's a baseball guy, yet he went 3 for 3 on basketball hires at X. No reason he can't make a good football hire as well. Let's get behind him.

hopefully when he gets to pick his own football coach, their relationship will be better than his was with johnson. and like others mentioned before, that he allocates funds appropriately to football and we do not fall so far behind in facilities, salaries, etc like GT has also.
GT and PU have a number of similar characteristics and hurdles, so hopefully things go substantially better for MB2 here this time.

From where I sit it looks like he's an "aw shucks, let's strive for the middle, non-Purdue family hire".

Let's hope his "years to do that" don't rival MB's last 10.

I'll give you something to answer that others have done before with me regarding men's basketball head coaches: Name 5 other AD's that you would have preferred over Bobinski.

I find it hard to believe that he's sharp enough to make really good hires and also be demanding and tough enough on coaches' results. I see him as being too much of a buddy-buddy Purdue guy to be tough on coaches and to be unbiased. I don't want to see that. I want to see someone who is more intellectual and demanding (but still personable): someone that's in-tune with today's generation of young people and wants to be innovative.
I don't know anything about his AD IQ or whether he is capable of being unbiased. It was meant as a joke.

Let's get behind him.
This. People only have impressions. The hiring is done. No real reason for people to start complaining before he has had a chance to move into his office. That would be worse than complaining that Matt Painter will be coaching Purdue basketball for the 2016-17 season. It's a done deal.

I like the hire.

It sounds (and reads) to me like GT had a heaping helping of shitstorm going on before he arrived, he attempted to correct (athletic dept support, funding from Admin, facilities, etc etc etc etc) and he hit a brick wall, so he decided to look elsewhere. Hell, GT is still wearing RUSSELL ATHLETICS gear! That's their athletic dept. equipment "brand"! BBall unis, FBall unis, etc...Hahahaha......

Anyway, I'm fully behind this new MB. He sounded uplifting and centered and positive on Dakich today...I'm down. Plus My Man Mitch called him a "competitive SOB" and I loved that one.

Mark me down.

I say welcome to Purdue, I don't know the guy, what he is thinking, what he can do or can't do, so welcome and glad you are now a Boiler.

I like the hire from the perspective that he knows how to establish relationships. Not so much a strong characteristic with MB. So this virtue for AD Bobinski can be used to great advantage in several directions. One, he can develop a better relationship with the fanbase. Done properly the outcome could be better levels of contributions and participation in athletic department events, including outings, coaches meet and greets, and even game attendance. And maybe there will become a new attitude internally in the athletic offices were the fanbase will not be treated as second class citizens. Second, he can develop a better overall relationship with the B10 administration. That can lead to better decision making in things related to academic performance, drug policies, discipline, fund distribution, advertising, media acceptance and more. Third, he can develop better relationships with the NCAA in the categories mentioned above. Fourth, he can develop better relationships with other peer directors of schools, especially in our regional proximity. This could lead to establishment of consistent rivalry events and easier schedule making for our individual teams.

And all that enters my mind from one personality trait that I read into the interviews done so far. Other capabilities in leadership will make this hire one of the more outstanding in the nation with the potential to raise this athletic department to the levels necessary to compete at the highest levels. I will be watching for those leadership qualities to come out in the future with the initial thought that anything in these areas will be better than what we had in the past.

Unlike you I don't have an agenda when pressed for answers. Don't have a list of 5. Wasn't privy to the list of candidates but if this milktoast selection was the best and brightest on that list then none of us are realistic about the quality of candidates Purdue can attract for any athletic position.

I'm just into someone fresh and new, with new ideas. It brings new hope and excitement to me. I/We need that bigtime!
