According to the President, BOT, and AD, we are idiots, and THEY are totally committed to football.

Basically the summary of everything I have read/watched of yesterday. As I watched the coverage, I was hoping to get specifics of how they are committed. The head of the BOT like a presidential political rally said, "We will win National Championships!" because of the new building apparently. Mitch Daniels is a "really competitive guy" who "wants to win." And Morgan Burke you "don't want to sit with him at a game because he is so fanatic!" So clearly, as you see, these three are SO into football.

Towards the end, I can't remember if it was Mitch or Morgan, said something like "those (dopes) that think we are not committed, they will see 70 million reasons to show you otherwise!"

Yes, to build a facility maybe 10 years overdue.

On a side note I noticed DH is on the donor list for the project and was there digging dirt. Could be awkward if he is not retained.

I read that too. If they are SO committed to football, why didn't they shell out the money and fire Hazell? That is were it starts. And you are calling us the idiot Daniels?

We get it...they were late to the party.

Why continue to shit on them now that we are trying to remedy the issue and successors will be in place most likely VERY soon for the 2 biggest issues.

I think the BOT IS fully committed to winning now. I don't think they were ever NOT committed, they just got caught with their pants down in the arms race.

The commitment you've complained about has arrived. The AD and coach you constantly bitch about will be gone very soon. Yes, change hasn't happened as fast as it needed to but now that it's here will you shut the **** up already?

Commitment is like working hard: we all think we're working hard until someone comes along who works harder and kicks your ass. In our case, 13 someones came along and kicked our ass. We will see how committed we are by the scoreboard on fall Saturdays. Until then, it's a bunch of BS platitudes.

Having said that, if the choice was to fire the Haze and let Morgue hire another coach, or to hibernate for 1 more season and let a new AD make the call, I will take the latter.

Have they announced the season ticket sales for 2016 yet?

Until it actually happens, we have a right to complain.

Then we'll be even, because I find it awkward that DH has the brass to accept his paycheck.

It's happening though. It takes time to transition. Coaches are locked in for chunks of years. ADs are locked in for longer.

Those people that think Purdue football will suck forever are ignoring history.

Pboiler

1) Cordova was not committed to winning. She neutered the ad from a funds standpoint. She did the same at her prior gig

2) history indicates Purdue is a mediocre team. Tiller was an anomaly. The hope is you find another outlier. It will take time, but standing pat with a historical failure is bad

I don't think what we are doing is standing pat. We are working on upgrading facilities and over the next year we will most likely shuffle the AD and HC spots.

Cordova started out death spiral but it looks to me like we are investing to get out of it. With top notch facilities we can go back to recruiting with and beating out NW, Illinois, Iowa, Minny, Wisky and others like we did when we were successful.

The failure was trying to be competitive over the last 10 years but only learning after our failures instead of being proactive about winning in all facets. Now, we've seen where we need to be it will just take a leader or two to drive us. Again, the good news is that we will likely see some fresh blood in those positions soon.

I don't mind having DH as our coach this year as it means MB won't be making the next coaching hire!

Agreed. The only bad component of the strategy is the 2017 class is going to be historically bad. I hope it doesn't scare off a potential coach.

Their comments after what the fans have been through in recent years was a SLAP in the face ! !

Drew Brees was focused on our football program and helping us make a positive step forward ! - they wanted an upgrade to the beer tent.

My thanks goes to Drew and his wife for helping us. My angst goes to those speakers who TRIED to make it look like they had nothing to do with the Cluster F%%% we've been watching. Leaders take responsibility and clearly chart a future vision which will WORK - we still have the three stooges.

Even now, . . when they KNOW we need a major direction change they act like they don't know we are decades behind on the program and months behind on a new AD selection, etc...

Lets hope we finally get someone who has the passion for making it happen versus drinking some beer in the south end zone. Thank god we have basketball and the Olympics coming so I can forget about the other stuff.

I, too, was impressed to see how important Purdue football is not only to Burke, but also to the Prez and even the Board Chair. I think perhaps it becomes more important to them when Drew Brees and some of these other NFL players call. By the way, Hovde was the real sports president as he had played football at Minnesota.

It is nice that they are finally realizing it is a higher priority than diving, but PBoiler's consistent "glass is always half full" treatment of Burke is flawed in that it does not acknowledge how deep Burke has allowed the Purdue football hole to get. Effective leaders and managers do not allow their major revenue drivers to tank. It simply is too darn hard to get big things turned around, so you pay careful attention everyday and keep your major revenue producers relevant and healthy.

The plans are exciting, and I hope they work. I think this could have been a lot easier if Burke had not mangled the Tiler transition twice, and put some of the natatorium, baseball complex, and softball complex into football. Anyone have any attendance data for swimming, baseball, softball, etc.?

RAH RAH RAH ZIS BOOM BAH!!!! We are great and will be in the national playoff picture with just a few changes.

But my point t is the Board is the Board and I am guessing has been around for a while. Why did they wait so long. Cordova was bad, fine, but who let her run amok? The drop off in 12 years is truly amazing. God bless Drew Brees for being the last ditch effort to drum up interest.

They needed Morgue around to supervise the construction of the new Frisbee Golf Complex.
I genuinely think the top of the heap, the BOT, and the man who appointed the BOT, Mr. President, fail to see that it is awful. But i know, Mitch Daniels "goes to games" and "cheers real loud" so he is "all in." Mitch is more concerned about finding a cheaper way to flip burgers (food service overhaul) vs athletic overhaul.

I don't appreciate being called an idiot by the president of my university. I do not believe the BOT or Mitch have been committed to winning, because I have 2 eyes.

I would argue that anyone who does believe they have been committed to winning is the idiot.

Not correct. Mitch is more concerned about breaking down public education and making scape goats of any and all teachers as to why he and other Republican leaders have consistently shit on their states and driven their state economies in the tank. Sorry but the man is an idiot and one I will never support. If I had 5 minutes with him in any way shape or form, he would be given an earful like he has never had from an individual. His policies are the direct reason our education system in our state is a total joke and why there is a huge teacher shortage in a state that used to produce a surplus of teachers. Ball State and IU are struggling to keep their education departments full of teachers because his parties policies of cutting teacher salaries, cutting benefits, cutting effectiveness of the Union, suporting the joke that is the idea of charter schools...all the while making teachers the scapegoats in all of this...is driving people away from the profession.

***Apologies for the rough language and political drivel, but I simply couldn't keep my mouth shut in such an idiotic man running my university.***

I agree with a lot of your thoughts on Mitch's handling of education as governor, (along with his buddy Tony Bennett) but to say Indiana's economy is "in the tank" is inaccurate. Drive west an hour or so, and you will find a state with a sucky economy.

Remember Morgan and Mitch are politicians who often make promises they can't keep.

It just seemed so desperate. I am not sure if that is the right term, but it was like " look at us! Look at us! See! See! People we are SO about football! Look, we had players from a previous regime play in Super Bowls! Now we are going to charge people $250 for their autographs to pay for light bulbs in the new building."

Very true but most state governments run by Republicans at the top are slowly heading in the toilet. Most notably Kansas and Louisiana but Illinois has a Republican as a governor now and is the reason for their down spiral.

You must be kidding. The current governor has been in office for 15 months. 2 democrats were in office for the previous 12 years. Also, Illinois' state legislature, not to mention the city of Chicago, have been run by the democrats forever.

I don't either,.. . especially when we know THEY are responsible for this Cluster F%%% ! ! This idiot wants the 3 stooges to remember one thing : No John Purdue Club, no football attendance, no donations of any kind, etc.. until it's fixed !

And yes, . . that could take awhile ! Maybe they should start up a lemonade stand ! It would be more profitable

(4) of the last (7) IL Governors have served prison sentences. They were indicted and found guilty of your typical corruption, racketering, bribery and bank fraud that seems to affect politicians in the state of Illinois. Only George Ryan was a republican. I think Blago was sentenced to 13 yrs for a multitude of corrupt practices.

My view of current Republican Rauner is that he inherited the spiralling financial calamity from decades of incompetent democratic state legislature and moronic Chicago alderman who are making retired cops, fireman, teachers and Cook county govt employees quite wealthy . Doubtful Mitch or Morgan ever intentionally lied, skimmed or bamboozeld alumni or trustees

The issue seems to me that we hired our 3rd or 4th choice (after being rejected by better applicants) and then inexplicably signed him to a 6 yr contract for 12m with incentatives. This season MUST result in a bowl game, otherwise, I am confident he will not be retained.

Statements like this qualify you for the idiot label when discussing IL politics. Take it from a resident. Rauner was elected in an attempt to end the business as usual of the long time Democrat led government controlled by House Speaker Mike Madigan that never saw a vote he couldn't buy with state money at the expense of the state. This was the pre-school for our current President and explains a lot of his governing techniques..

Illinois is a mess but has been since Jim Edgar. The hope was the Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart, a really smart guy and does a solid job running his department and jails would seek higher office but did not. Madigan needs to go. Rauner needs to go. It is just broken. But this is not the place for Illinois problems.

Facts are facts and I am speaking mainly about the awful job most Republican governors do with education in their states.

I agree that Illinois has had an awful run of corruption in their governorship for 20 years or so but the fact that the Koch backed Govenors in places like Illinois, Kansas, and Louisiana have single handily destroyed their states budgets and education systems. For example, teachers in some districts in Kansas are having to work unpaid overtime cleaning the school because they have had to lay off custodians. You could also compare Wisconsin and Minnesota to make a true comparison of what each side of the aisle has done. I tend to play the middle and stay away from playing the Dems vs GOP in my political thoughts but at this point all I need to do is point to Congress and Republicsn Govenors (like Mike Pence) to show Republicans have become concerned with one thing only...pleasing the big corporate donors that pay for their offices.

And I'm done with this thread...

Ah yes the evil Koch brothers. Are you sure Halliburton wasn't involved also? If you think democrats aren't also controlled by lobbyists, then you aren't paying attention.

Why do you think Hillary has been paid so much for speeches? Because of her superior skills as an orator?

Care to guess why Obama blocked the Keystone Pipeline? Follow the money.

Let's not fool ourselves - this is nothing more than CYA right now.

Purdue's athletic department budget is STRUGGLING big time - probably the worst financial situation in decades. Daniels/BOT didn't "decide" to give back some money to lower tickets out of the goodness of his own heart. It's because the athletic department is broke and in dire need.

I think point #1 is oversimplifying things. I don't think Cordova's handling of athletics was dramatically different than anyone before or after her. However, the notion that a President is going to come in and focus on athletics is a bit humorous (particularly for a school that has good academics).

However, you absolutely cannot ignore the economic climate during her tenure with the economic collapse. Most universities took about 10 steps back during this time - particularly public universities. There were a lot of unpopular choices that had to be made - but Purdue actually was praised for how it came out of that economic situation, compared to others. Would I have liked to keep that BTN money for athletics? Sure. Do I think it would have changed a damn thing if athletics kept it? No.

That being said, I don't blame Daniels, Cordova, Jischke, Beering, etc. on this. These four presidents are all completely different from one another. The common denominator is Burke. When Tiller was coach, Burke almost bragged about how we pay as little as we have to to our football coach and they'll get incremental increases as they earn them. That's not a university president's idea. If Burke wanted to give a big increase in funding to that program - he had plenty of numbers to go to the BOT/President. There were increases in winning, ticket revenue, JPC revenue, parking revenue, licensing revenue, etc. The same thing prior to the Painter situation. A university president/BOT isn't gonna come on down to Mackey Arena and knock on his door and be like "hey, I was thinking - do you wanna give this person some more money for their program?".

I found the Mitch Daniels hype a little funny just because people bought into the politician side of things. People literally on this forum praised him as a President because he drove his Harley onto the football field. Well 2.5 years later, we still have a crappy football program led by a coach that's shown he's not taking this program anywhere.

Right now, the cards are being shown. They are in another situation where they have to do something otherwise there's literally no hope for the future (and to convince a coach to come here in the future). Purdue's AD has dug itself quite a hole when it comes to football.

Economy is a bad excuse for Cordova due to the btn revenues coming in right as any ticket sales drop would have materialized. I'm not a painter supporter by any stretch but the crap surrounding his flirtation with mizzou and what it took to get funds from Burke and Cordova is unbelievable

I can sum up the whole mess of the BOT, presidents and Burke in one word: REACTIVE.

They smelled smoke a decade ago, but went back to sleep and didn't call the fire department until the flames were creeping under their bedroom doors.

Pants down since the late 50s is a better way to say it. WTH...George Ade was bitching about a lack of commitment back in the 1920s. I want to see every one of the BOT stand at the 50 yardline and look up at all the empty seats this year. We have one of the smallest stadiums in the BIG and we cant come anywhere close to filling it for good reason. The Old Dudes like me will tell you that this is all just political BS.

Frankly, I actually hate to see Brees get envolved because I think he is getting taken advantage of. FWIW. If you arent cheating you arent winning.

I would like to vote against Pence because I think his ultra-conservative stance on social issues is bad for the state. That said, I'm more against the teacher's union in Indiana than anything so if they want Pence out then I will more than likely vote for him just for that reason.

I think all this "commitment to winning" stuff is just BS to cover up the fact that we botched our last coaching hire big time. Our facilities aren't the reason we lose more to MAC teams than we win over the past 3 years.

There are bigger problems in Indiana than ISTA/NEA. But John Gregg has said he will do little to change Right to Work, etc. Unions back him as the lesser of two evils, but don't expect anything too crazy. I assume he will be a pretty red liberal and find a moderate stance on social issues, maybe get a second term, then force more agenda if he does. But that is a ways off.

Ding......ding......ding.

It's a cause of the problem. With worse facilities than our recruiting competitors, we lose out on good players. Then, when you mix that with bad coaching you get a bad team.
