Just finally connected with search committee chair Mike Berghoff after I'd reached out earlier in the week. There is really not much to report, just sort of the machinations of a process that's really just beginning.
As we reported was going to happen, the search committee met last week in Indy and sat down with the Chicago-based search firm Purdue has hired. The search firm is now going to do some extended interviews with people at Purdue to get a lay of the land. Morgan Burke will be one of those interviewed, so this may be where his prospective input looms largest.
The search firm will get back with Berghoff and the committee and they'll start to lay out some criteria for a hire, ID candidates and go from there.
This may not seem all that interesting, but it is an HR person's delight, probably. There is no deadline for making a hire.
In the meantime, I asked whether or not short-term long-term decisions that have to be made would be up to the outgoing Burke or the Board - specifically Matt Painter's contract extension talks - and he said that it's business as usual for Burke, but with certain matters the Trustees will be involved. This would be one of those matters, because the board has to approve contracts, basically. He didn't say that, but that is the case.
