Since there are so many IU fans on our board, I thought we have some fun at their expense of course. The following are the reasons I don't like IpUke and their fans. Feel free to add your own.

School:
1. Lower academic institution
2. Located in backwater southern Indiana
3. You never had a relevant football program & probably never will w/ Wilson as head coach
4. Your school color is bloody red, way too feminine for me (much prefer gold & black)
5. Blue blood you are not. Purdue is 117–89 against you in basketball

Fans:
1. Dumb & dumber
2. Backwater & hickish
3. Still think their basketball program is blue blood (nobody else does)
4. Living vicariously through IU basketball even though they never went to school there
5. You are not really southerners so your southern twang & drawl is kinda creepy

I know this thread is in fun and all, but I lived in Bloomington for 10+ years so I feel I have a bit of a different perspective. It's a very pretty town with a beautiful campus. Lots of things to do there with a great food and craft beer scene for the state (and decent hometown wine + one of the first craft distilleries in the state). I think what makes them look bad are the fans that never went there. When I lived there they had to put up with me plastering my office with Purdue stuff. It made for fun rivalries during the games, and most of the logical fans I worked with actually cheered for Purdue when they weren't playing IU.

Your post is factual, well worded, and fair. It just isn't any fun.:D

I'm sure this will be a response that will have everyone here jumping down my throat... I actually graduated from IU in 2015.... AH THE HORROR!!!

With that being said, I have been a lifelong Purdue sports fan, and I still am.

I had to choose between Purdue Pharmacy school and the IU Informatics school. I chose to go the IU route, because I wanted to be in software sales when I graduated (mission accomplished).

During my 4 years in Bloomington, I found it to be exactly as punaj described. I also attended many sporting events, including every basketball game, dressed in IU gear and cheering on the Hoosiers (my school). At the same time I attended many Purdue basketball games dressed in black and gold and cheering on Purdue (my favorite team). I attended every Purdue vs IU game (home and away) during my 4 years. I cheered for Purdue in every one of those games (although not as loudly in AH).

This is why my posts don't come off with a total hatred of IU. I don't think it's unreasonable to be a fan of both teams (although I will always cheer for Purdue when they are playing each other). I had a great time in btown and made many friends. I'm also very proud of my degree.

I'm sure those that have called me an IU troll in the past will have a field day with this post haha.

In most cases Purdue fans have some connection to the university. That isn't necessarily true for an IU fan. Generally speaking the actual IU grads are fine and those that had a real major even more so. I think it is the others that sometimes create a picture that many IU grads don't like. Now there are exceptions to all of this, but an IU doctor...particularly if he was admitted due to his pre med at Purdue are generally fine people. ;)

Seriously, people that have to live through others' accomplishments are many times difficult to understand no matter their affiliation. I have no issue with "real" IU fans or any other school that wants to talk basketball on this forum...

I will say that I always cheered for Purdue or any team playing IU. Loved the town and the university, but could not root for their sports teams. Sorry tynd10 :)

That said, I was down there for a reason I did not create and ended up working at IU for most of that time. Because of that, I got my master from them, on them, in the IU school of informatics as well, in 2004... though to this day, I tell people my Purdue CS degree is the one that matters!

I will admit cheering for IU started mostly because of peer pressure. It's a lot more fun to attend a sporting event with your friends when you are all cheering for the same team.

@tynd10, if you ever took a class with Rawlins from 2011-2013 or so where you worked on semester to year long software projects, I may have been helping him teach his classes... design patterns or whatever it ended up morphing in to over the years. Small world if so.

I did a summer internship instead of doing those classes. It is a small world though haha.

Na, I think you get a pass with that explanation. Half of my family attended IU and I like them most of the time.

All of which can be found at Pierre's in the Fort as well. Not that I would know or anything .....

That said I love IU fans! They usually deliver my pizza on time and with a little help give me exact change when I pay with cash.

yeah, well try giving them some extra coins to get back bills and then tell me the success rate...

I have been an IU in the past. I have lots of relatives and friends that are IU fans, and they are generally pretty good folks. I really liked Bobby Knight n his prime and rooted for IU to win the NCAA's. Crean absolutely creeped me out, and his classless behavior, and that of the IU fans in B'Town ion the last few years did me in. I have to say I no longer cheer for IU, not because I hate them or anything, just because of the weirdness there. I am waiting and will re-evaluate my position as Archie gets going.

You all know how I feel.

Growing up in Indiana in a divided house......I don't talk to that side of the family much.

I lived there for years too. The peeps there are good folks. It's the peeps in the rest of the state that suck. I have been socially active in Lafayette for a long time. The attorneys, dentists, doctors, and teachers here are, well, are total f**king a**holes. I swear, teachers who have so much hate bother me. Their classrooms look like Buddhist shrines. Get a life and please, leave me alone.

HUH? I had you located far from the FT. not that anyone should know where you are, but just never thought of you there. Rock on ...

Well to be fair I do travel a lot for work and the Fort is just "home base" and I telecommute most of the time. So I most certainly could give the impression I'm in a bigger city or elsewhere

I tell you what though, I lived in South bend for 26 years and that town just sucks :) (no offense to and Boilers that live there ).

Rivalries are great! Too bad such hate couldn't be limited to college sports or the world would be a much better place.

A little OT, why does the Big Ten suck?! They could have a great thing protecting basketball rivalries where rivals would always play home/home.
Purdue - Indiana
Northwestern - Illinois
Michigan State - Michigan
Iowa - Minnesota
Wisconsin - Nebraska
Ohio State - Maryland
Penn State - Rutgers

A few could be rearranged but this would increase the image of the Big Ten and provide more games for rivalry week.
