#7 in AP

vitale and means both have us 2, doubt that was intentional. Most have us 5-9 with our lowest 13. All but 2 have us in the top 11.

Pretty damn good. Shocked we passed duke who is now 8. Wisconsin 13 and nova 14. PAC has 3 of top 6 teams.

Still pretty generous IMHO.
Granted....we started off hot with some big wins.
Climbed to No1 and then dropped the proverbial bowling ball on our foot 3 days later at Rut. Now, that did require a last second prayer to lose, but that game was in question the entire time.
Then, we didn't look good against NCState but pulled it out after a full game struggle but a nice comeback.
Against WI, I think we had a 7-9 pt lead at under 10 and it required another career night for an WI player to beat us.
Against PSU, we were down 1 with 3 mins to play but made big plays at crunch time.
What's my point? This team could have anywhere from 0 to 5 losses. They could be anywhere from No1 to out of the top 25. W's have definitely gotten more difficult to secure since early Dec.
It's now fairly clear what the strengths and weaknesses are and our opponents know the same.
It'll be interesting to see how Painter adjusts the lineups and playtime now differently then he did when the team was really rolling.

Vitale actually moved us up from 3 to 2. He really shouldn't have a poll vote, for whatever it might be worth.
Agree. Dude has got some mental issues.

That aside, I think we are where we should be at the moment as we have a good chance to get back in to the top 4/5 by the end of the year if the team plays to their potential.

Its funny how expectations change. I for one suggested 3 or 4 conference losses at the beginning of the year. Then we're ranked #1 and we're "the greatest Purdue team ever" and maybe we'll go 16-2 like the three amigos! Then we lose 2 out of our first 4 conference games and struggle in the other two and I'm like can we even compete for the B10 Championship. I guess that's what makes it fun.

Yeah, this team probably still doesn't have the ceiling of the Hummel, E'Twaun, Jajuan, Kramer teams -- but, if all the pieces can come together, it's probably a deeper team.

Really need Ivey to continue to blossom as the year goes on, and for Trevion to know when he needs to be assertive and score.

I thought 11 or 12th. I was really glad we won saturday. A psu alum friend of mine said I was beginning to think your BBall season was going the way of our FBall team this past season.

A few of things.

One, this team deserves, and has earned, every ounce of respect they're getting. They're immensely talented. It doesn't matter how much some people want to rag on (crap on) certain players in the rotation.

Two, as fans, we should realize and recognize that this Purdue MBB team is going to get the opponent's absolute BEST game every time we tip off. They're not going to be impressed, they're not going to quit, and it will make for some really frustrating games (like it already has).

Three, I hope this TEAM understands #2 (above), and we have some alpha dogs start to emerge. (This is a collection of really, REALLY good players, and a bunch of "too nice" people.) Absent that, this team is simply a collection of the greatest Purdue MBB talent we've seen in our lifetimes. Nobody knows how far that, alone, will take us.

Number two is a factor not discussed enough here. There is a reason #1 is cursed. The elite teams have a target on their back and these other teams have nothing to lose by putting it all out on the floor.

Your idea of fun is different than mine...

Baylor is going to be up there near the top all year, and, Gonzaga will in that they just don't play anyone (they were favored by more than 30 the other night).

After that, 3-10 is pretty much jut going to rotate assuming teams win at least most of the time.

I was pretty confident that Purdue was without question one of the top 3-5 teams before Rutgers, but, there were flaws in the Iowa game that have remained since.

The wins over Villanova, UNC and FSU are not as impressive as they might have seemed at the time.

The Pac-12 teams will all play each other, but, outside of UCLA, Arizona and USC, not sure how much real quality there is otherwise in that conference...so, they are all 3 going to loom up there all year likely as a result.

People feel like Purdue falling to just 7 is a bit generous, but, how about KU falling from 6 to 9 only...6 was seemingly generous for them to begin with...falling to 9 seems incredibly generous.

Next week is huge for Purdue...if it can win road games against Illinois and Indinia, that will bode well for sure.
