Multiple Guess Test:

68,894 …

A.) Purdue’s typical home attendance for major foes through the 1980s

B.) Lafayette’s population in 2010

C.) Drew Brees’ NFL career passing yardage in 2017

Although “all the above” would be largely true -- Purdue’s attendance routinely was near capacity even with subpar teams until students were forced to pay extra in 1989, reducing 20,000 regular attendees by over two thirds, with the stadium’s capacity itself reduced during the 2000s, while ongoing growth has now lifted Lafayette and West Lafayette to nearly 120,000 combined, not including Purdue’s 40,000-plus students -- the precise answer is C as Brees prepares to return to the site of his first collegiate start, the Los Angeles Coliseum, this time to face the Rams as the NFL’s all-time third-leading passer … just 3,047 yards shy of becoming No. 1.

Truly amazing!
I'm surprised you don't hear more comparisons between him and Peyton. Besides the numbers, their careers are quite similar. Playing most of their careers for an also-ran franchise. Having to essentially BE the team. Winning 1 SB in prime of career. Peyton won his 2nd SB bowl later in his career as a game manager on a really talented team. Now the Saints are playing better all-around football, Brees taking on a little bit different role, maybe we see a second SB??

When I went to school the football and basketball tickets were free but included as part of a student college athletic fee! It was included as part of your overall cost of attending Purdue ! Students and parents paid the fee much like paying for tuition and parking fees and attendance at football and basketball games was great! It also was a smart way of bringing in income without students realizing it! We had no choice but to pay the fee! So we went to the games!

Brees is Outstanding in every way possible, just way cool how he continues to Support Boiler Football these many years later, hope he has another good 3-4 years left in that throwing arm, and breaks all the records in the NFL!!

At the 1980 game, I believe the crowd even exceeded capacity. Is that still the attendance record?

Crowds were always larger before the Colts came to Indy.Second to the Irish we were the show in the fall on Sat.even with bad teams.

Yeah pretty good for someone that the "experts" thought was too short, did not a strong arm, and his success might have been due to Tiller's system. Purdue fans knew the "experts" were wrong from the beginning.
