Things are never as bad or as good as they appear.
2 things that could happen to get us to win 4 more games (both are unlikely):
1) change of offensive coordinator and play design.
2) Blough gets the nod and shows he can complete passes.
I'm still a believer that against the mid-tear BIG10 teams (ILL, NW, IOWA, IU, MINN) that we will be competitive if Hazell hasn't totally lost the locker room by that point. I think physically we aren't that far off from the typical slower BIG10 teams.
VA TECH outclassed us with their ACC speed, and made us 1-dimensional by not respecting that we could throw, not respecting that Appleby would be able to run more than a few yards because he is slow..and simply going all in on shutting down our running backs. We had guys in position to make tackles on defense and simply just got blown by.
If Hazell (and it's a big if) makes some tough decisions in regards to offensive changes and we have some success because of it, things could turn more positive over the course of the year. (Pipe Dream)
Unfortunately I don't think Purdue is the type of program that would dismiss a coordinator during the season because football just isn't that important, so most likely nothing will change and we are looking at maybe 3 wins.
Also, all of this talk pre-season from Hazell about protecting the ball being the most critical part of the QB position...and our starter now has 7 turnovers through 3 games and is coming off one of the worst performances a QB at Purdue has ever played....how could Hazell possibly start him against BG?
