38th Anniversery of the Evansville plane crash...

I was a senior in high school. We played Pike every year. Pike's head coach, Ed Siegle, lost his son Mark in that crash. He was a freshman at Evansville and had played for his dad in high school.

I was a freshman at Purdue when that happened, remember reading about it in The Exponent.

Didn't remember much about the crash so I looked it up. Two sad facts...blamed on human error, and last surviving team member that didn't travel on that flight was struck and killed by a drunk driver two weeks later. Unreal.

It seems like charter flights are safer nowadays than they used to be, but maybe I'm just biased. I remember reading that future longtime Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan was offered the Evansville job in 1977 but changed his mind at the last minute and turned it down. Bobby Watson accepted the position and we all know what happened in December of that year. That will always be a sad day in history: http://images5.fanpop.com/image/pho...lebrities-who-died-young-31755044-425-270.jpg
