Purdue did get a prominent member of the Brownsburg basketball team after all. no, not Kanon Catchings. Porath was a starting guard alongside Catchings with the Bulldogs. He was an outstanding high school kicker and he also served as a punter for a really good Brownsburg team that struggled in tournament play. Last season Brownsburg was the No. 1 team in the state at 9-0 entering the postseason. They rolled through the difficult Hoosier Crossroads Conference and even had a non-conference win over Cathedral. They were then upset by Ben Davis in the first round of the state tournament.
In 2022 they suffered a similar fate, as they finished 10-2 after losing to Cathedral 14-7 in the tournament. Still, much of that is not on Porath. He was 7 for 7 on field goals last year and he served as his team's punter, averaging 40 yards per kick. He was one of the top HS kickers in the country and even made the Army All-American Bowl.
Porath enters this year in a nice spot. If he does not win the starting job he will like redshirt, as the other two kickers on the roster are 6th year COVID year guys. That gives him a chance to develop before he takes over the job in 2025.
