Second half scoring a paltry 29 points...... and 1 point all of OT until Cline got a meaningless 3 with a second to go........ reminded me of last year's team.....offensively inept.

Painter got some work to do by next week.....

Cline has disappeared since moving into the starting lineup. Putting him back in when CE fouled out was another mistake. Even DD (who I can't stand) said he didn't understand why Spike wasn't going in.

Cline is in because he is the best pure shooter on the team and someday is going to be a really good Purdue player. We needed the shooting. It was the right move, IMO.

Didn't hit anything all day. Spike just knocked down a 3 last time he was in. Spike is also the senior that has more experience it that position. I agree Cline is going to be, he just isn't their yet.

Cline won't ever average more than 10 PPG (max). I can almost guarantee that. His dad Mike was the same way at Ohio State in the 1970's. He had nearly the same scoring average all four of his years there (3-6 PPG).

I would have had Spike in there for sure. I thought Haas could have done well if given more minutes. Either way you slice it though, this is a game we had in our grasp and let it slip away. We lost it more than they won it imo.

Doesn't matter how good of a shooter you are if you can't get any looks. Purdue is likely the only school from a power conference that starts 3 guards, and none of them can get to the hoop or create their own shot.

Nor can they get open when our bigs are double and triple teamed.

That is pretty much true today...won't be the case next year...but your point is valid. It is a reminder of just how far Purdue was down a few years ago

Cline is not athletic to create his own shot (very easy to shut him down) and defensively he is too slow and a liability. Help defense is needed on his man. He needs to come off the bench 5 minutes each half.

They can (Thompson, Mathias, Cline), just not with any regularity. Against top teams, they probably can't create off-the-dribble (score, get an assist from it, etc.) at all.

Haas could stay on the court longer if he wasn't forced into playing man D all the time.

Next season, there's only one newcomer (at this point) that's definitely capable of creating offense in that manner (Eastern). Stefanovic is another Mathias or Cline in that regard. Perhaps Wheeler has pretty good handles and can be similar to VE (but quicker) in creating off of his dribble.
