If IU was the flaming turd of the past, we might be able to withstand another year of misery before righting the ship, but we are now in a much more dire position than we were with Hope and Hazell.

Our in-State recruiting just became dramatically more difficult than any time in recent memory. Who in their right mind would commit to play football at Purdue under Walters over Cignetti with IU? We better find a high caliber coach immediately or our hole will be so deep it will take decades to dig out.

It is now time for Purdue to spend and to spend big.

Only alternative method I see is to fill Ross-Ade next year under Walters would be to start offering a limited time all-inclusive wristband with each season ticket granting a fireball shot every time our opponent scores and unlimited Busch Lite chasers.

The ONLY hope we have is a Blue chip university hires Cignetti out from IU... Otherwise it will be a very long time before we even compete with IU again...

Should we have offered Brohm a contract like Cignetti just got and would have that kept him? Interesting question now, in lieu of what IU has done.

Yea, I wonder if throwing the bag at Brohm cold have kept him.. He's been good at Louisville though. the program has a higher ceiling. Especially in the ACC...

Wouldn’t have mattered I don’t think. Also his recruiting was falling apart at the end. Probably because he knew he had no reason to work hard at it.

Well they’re delusional.
Agree. But we were to the point of paying him excessively to keep him here when he didn't want to stay. And it may be he'd go back to Louisville anyway. But they're getting exactly what he proved to be at Purdue. Purdue fans were happy with big wins mixed with some disappointing losses. I don't know how long Louisville fans will tolerate beating Clemson then losing to Stanford due to some undisciplined penalties and bad decisions down the stretch. Could be he eventually gets fired and the family name becomes the black sheep in Louisville rather than royalty.

1. Cignetti is 62. At best he has 8-10 more years. Probably less.

2. Not every year will work out like this year has. He's a good coach I think but he had this schedule set up for him and transfers have worked out and not many injuries.

3. Even if IU is good it doesn't prevent us from being good also.

Indiana has 1 4+ star commit. Let’s not forget Cignetti is 63 and will be 68 when these kids graduate. And he brought 14 senior transfer starters to play over the players who were with indiana. And that the players likely are getting a fraction of other top 25 teams and maybe less than purdue. We see all star pro athletes spurn their cities to get slightly more money. Winning won’t alone get it done.

He’s 63 and the fifth oldest coach in P4/P5.

When he left, I predicted Brohm would average going 8-3 at Louisville. Over the course of 10 years, going 80-30 and to a bowl game every year would make most fans happy Iowa fans are happy with their coach and his success. My guess is most Purdue fans would be happy if their coach averaged 8 win for 10 years.
But there are always fans who are never happy and then they realize how good things actually were. Look at Nebraska. Petrino just wasn’t good enough. Look at Auburn! Look at Texas A&M.

Some fans are never happy. They don’t want to give any of their money to support the program. They just want to complain.

Over the years I’ve donated my money to PMO and cancer research. They are both doing very well. Instead of watching a boring football game, maybe you should check out an exciting PMO Christmas show. The good seats were sold out a long time ago. There may be a few cheap seats in the balcony left. Intelligent people know a good thing when they see it. And those students do not demand NIL money! And they devote just as much of their time as athletes do to present their performance!

See you there!

Beech beech beech! That all some of you ever want to do! Life is good. Why don’t you start enjoying it? Take in the Feast of the hunter’s moon! Visit the Indy zoo. There is more to life than Purdue football!

I read your post and feel dumber already and regret it. I’m not sure what your rambling point is.

I love the pmo Christmas show. My tickets don’t affect my support of Purdue athletics they are mutually exclusive. And you saying they devote just as much as athletes is absolutely insane (my girlfriend in college was in u-choir, it really wasn’t that much time).

I stopped after the first or second sentence. Don't even think he's posting real thoughts anymore. Nobody is that dumb.

I don’t get why you are so wrapped up in Cignetti only having 8-10 years left. Purdue has only had 2 coaches last 8 or more years in the last 70 years!! If we got Cignetti at 65 he would still probably beat the average length of a coaching career at Purdue.

Cignetti's not going anywhere. He has stated many times as recently as yesterday that he and his wife love Bloomington plus he just got a new contract you may have not heard about yesterday. His staff likes Bloomington and IU.

IU spends $64 million and Purdue stuggling to get rid of Walters at $3 million per year. Absolute joke and tells you everything you need to know.
That's $72M for 8 years just for him, salary pool of assistants also increased plus $15M last year in two easy payments to have Tom Allen leave town. One big difference few talk about ... the IU prez loves football unlike the Aussie she replaced.

Um. I think I mentioned it once and it turns out I was short by a year. Not sure that qualifies as being "so wrapped up in" it. Point was he's old and closer to the end of his career than the beginning.

by the time he retires, the OC will be ready to take over.
We will see what happens. Long ways to go to be projecting that. If things go well, other opportunities will come along for the top assistants. If things don't continue to go well, he might eventually be replaced or IU may not even want him when that time comes.

I know it's tempting to think the 10-0 start will project endlessly into the future but things have a way of changing fairly quickly. No bigger proof of that than IU football over the past year. Hell, much can change for the trajectory of the program, in either direction, in the next week alone. If they get beat at Ohio State the conversation will turn to their schedule and how they have no quality wins and if they deserve to be in over some really good SEC teams. If they win at Ohio State the talk will be if they are the new #1.

iu giving Cignetti that big contract actually helps Purdue. It puts pressure on MBob and shows that iu, one of the worst NCAA programs in history, is willing to make a significant investment. Purdue needs to do the same.

Lville would have matched anything Purdue threw at Brohm. He was leaving no matter what and Lville wanted him to come home and he wanted to go home.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Where would Louisville get $8m per year and another $8m for assistants? They aren’t taking papa John money anymore.

The same place a perennial bottom feeder like iu found $72M. When a school is committed, they'll find the money.

It’s also a major financial winner if a school gets the right guy.

IU is going to average 20,000 additional fans per home game this year and potentially going forward.

With 8 home games a year and $75 per ticket that’s an additional $12,000,000 annually, and that’s not counting concessions, parking, community economic impact, and national university exposure.

The trick is to be correct in assessing who’s worth the investment.

I don’t think you will see any acc school make any commitment like that until the fsu lawsuit is over. Right now their tv contract ends in 2027, espn can extend in February 2025 through 2036. And their revenue lags $20m behind big ten which is expected to increase to as much as $40m-$60m over time. How do you find that money? It’ll take some time but if espn renews it might be the best thing for sec and big ten as the acc teams will fall off and create clear separation. Florida state and clemson can’t find buyout money I just don’t think people realize how hard it is to make up that kind of money. I mean on an 8 year deal that’s like $400m difference

With all due respect, do you work in the finance dept of the athletic dept and have an intimate knowledge of where Purdue stands financially?

"How do you find the money?"
The money is there, it just depends on what they want to spend it on. Do they want to commit to hiring a winner and pay market value of do they want to try and go low and hope to get lucky?
There are really smart financial minds that oversee the money at Purdue. If Nick Saban said "Pay me $10M a year and I'll come coach Purdue", he'd have a check in hand by lunch time today.

I'll ask again, where did iu magically find $72M for Cignetti?
