With a late start, whenever we get our next coach, there is going to have to be 40-50 transfers at least with no recruiting class and all of the transfers out. It worked for IU, so I don't know why it cannot work for us.

The difference I see between your situation and IU's, as of YESTERDAY, December 1st, Cignetti was already on contract last year. With the new dates for early portal visits (Dec 4th), you could be more like Washington. Yes, they were caught unexpectedly in January but still in two weeks your are outside the portal window until the spring. The coach at Washington has reminded his press corp of that almost weekly.

I would guess until a coach is hired you will have over 30 players announce for the portal. Some might comeback after they talk to the new coach. As bad as IU was 2021-2023, they had over 40 scholly's to fill.

If you guys hire a successful current head coach and open the checkbook? That coach will bring players with them.

If not? Only scraps will remain. That's why Mullen or Chryst would be a questionable hire in this era.
