Either we somehow don't have a recruiting thread for this year or it has just gotten pushed down very far, but I wanted a place for updates and rumors about the next class. We currently have 14 commits, in a class I could see getting up to 18 if the right recruits are available and current team plays well enough to avoid needing 10+ transfers. That leaves 4 spots for this class currently laid out below.

QB: Brady Allen
RB: Kentrell Marks
WR: Curtis Deville
WR:
TE: Charlie Kenrich
T: Vince Carpenter
G: Andre Oben
C: Malachi Preciado
G:
T: Cross Watson
WR: Terence Thomas

DE: Joe Strickland
DT: JP Deeter
DT:
DE:
OLB: Roman Pitre
MLB: Domanick Moon
OLB: Nic Caraway
CB:
S:
S:
CB:

ATH:
K:
P:

I took some liberties in assigning players to where I think they will eventually play, also I expect Kicker and Punter in this class to be walk-ons.

What are the positions of most need and where will the final recruits be added?

Offense: QB is obviously locked up, I think we could take another RB, another WR if elite, TE is probably fine. We have 4 linemen with a combined 3 P5 offers other than Purdue which worries me, but I think they are solid project pieces, specifically Carpenter who I think has great flexibility and athleticism for such a big kid. We are probably done recruiting the line unless a superstar gets interested.

Defense: I would love a 300 pounder to anchor the middle and overall I think we could use one more body at DE/DT, LBs I think we are solid, Secondary obviously needs 2-3 guys but maybe Terence Thomas who I have as a WR will end up playing corner.

Why is the class only 18?
With the new transfer rule every team should be signing 23-25 kids a class & let it work itself out.

I guess the theory is transfers will come and go at somewhat equal rates and you still need to stick with a year-to-year number that will work to get to 85.

I think offense is done barring a special player being available.

-Allen has been QB1 for a long time
-Marks was the second RB they had targeted and got after one committed elsewhere.
-Thomas is the slot/RB guy.
-Deville was the WR top on the board.
-Kenreich has time to develop.

4 OL seem to be all the wanted as they cooled on other targets. All will try tackle my guess and If they fail as tackles they’ll move inside.

Defense still has needs:
-Could use a NT, but those are hard to find
-Deeter May slide inside
-Strickland will stay end.
-Caraway will probably be the leo in the defense scheme
-Not sure if they add another linebacker with Karlaftis and Brothers being so young class wise
-DB: Need at least 2 corners and a safety

Even before the transfer rule, you could sign 25 in a class, or even more if you carried over the early singnees from December. Most programs will still take 20-22 for a “small class.” I know teams generally don’t take less than that unless they are not in good shape with who they want, and instead of “settling,” they will just take a small class & move on to the next year.

It is my understanding that teams are limited to 25 new players per year, high schoolers and transfers combined. I am not 100% sure this is the case and there is some wiggle room due to early enrollees and grey-shirting practices, but many of the top teams this year are below 25 with transfers making up the difference

More or less take the best available and use the transfer market to fill the gaps

My hope for recruiting is that .. even though a guy in this class might be a 5.5.. maybe we passed on a 5.6 who would contribute to our high turnover rate and this kid we took will just work out as a solid contributor

I do think Purdue stops at 18 or so high schoolers and banks some for transfers.

I can’t recall it RB Mockobee comes in as a PWO or goes on scholarship next year
