2019 Recruiting class...

With Purdue hopefully in hot pursuit of a stellar 2019 recruiting class...does anyone know who are Painter's primary targets?

Outside the ones you listed
Isaiah Stewart (PF) - believe we didn't make his first cut based on some recent interviews
Trayce Jackson Davis (PF/C) - will be a tough battle for a kid from Center Grove but his dad likes our big man development
Jalen Wilson (SF)
Keion Brooks (SF)
Drew Timme (C/PF)

I am sure will make their way on and off the list in the coming months as we finish up the 2018 class.

My opinion - I like Okoro a lot and would take Wilson over Brooks

Matt looks like he's definitely looking to boost up the roster at the frontcourt slots.

Okoro, Brooks and TJD seem to be the prime candidates.

Okoro would be a monster in or big man development program and doesn't seem like he's too far along in is recruitment, so I like our chances as good as anybody. Will see if KU jumps on him as they loom large.

Brooks and TJD have been discussed at length. MSU and IU may have to be jumped to get either, but there's a good chance we could snatched one of them. IU is overloaded in the front court as it is, so I find it hard they will get more than 1 big in 19...and they "may" get Watford or Hurt. MSU is looking at other bigs too, so it's not like there is no window for us to grab one.

Yeah, IU and Archie have a great track record for developing bigs.

Feel like we could potentially have TJD or Brooks fall into our lap if their first choices are packed with other players.

Brooks is good but feel like TJD’s development has pushed him above Brooks as the #1 player on the state of Indiana.

I assume that Painter is recruiting TJD primarily as a 4 with the depth that Purdue will have at the 5. I would think that would be a nice selling point, along with the success that Purdue is having on the court this season.

Probably a big selling point and I am sure showing him how we can run him in both 4 or 5 with another big has to be intriguing.

Sees himself as more of a 5 in college.

My opinion, with Haarms being so far ahead of schedule and Dow coming I would be surprised if we took a pure 5 that isn't a threat from distance.

There are a lot of very talented kids Painter is after. After some very good wings and big men. I love the current crop, but it would be nice to add a big that is a scoring threat. A big time wing to compete within Wheeler would be useful as well and Painter always likes to add a pure shooter in each class so I imagine we will see one.

Hunter shooting 44 % from three

He also isn't in the '19 class. He has been adding a pure shooter in each class, or trying to anyway. You could argue Thompson is a shooter and I would give you that. He will be special, but I think he would be aiming for somebody over 6'5 that can really shoot it. I suppose I could have specified.

Just roaming through the higher-ranked shooting guards (Not specifically for a gunner) and looking at location, the two from LaLume (Chas Smith IV and to a lesser, but more local extent, Paxson Wojcik) and Dexter Shouse from Lawrence North may be somewhere on the radar.

Interesting that Isaac Okoro from GA is the #2 ranked SG in 2019

so is Isiah known more as a pure outside shooter like Cline was in high school? Or is he more of a scorer like C Edwards?

What I'd really like to see at Purdue as part of the 2019 class is a 6'8 SF that could hit lights out from outside like Bird or Creighton's McBuckets.

I'm not that excited about having a PF or C with an outside game. I want my C to be an inside enforcer and rim protector. I want an old fashioned outside shooting SF like Pippin or Rick Barry, Curry, Thomson, or Durant, Worthy, Mullen, Hummel. What I want is the second coming of Mitchell or better yet - Scottie May !!

As a Boilermaker, I had a ton of respect for Scottie May.

Rick Barry and Scott May, that is going back a ways! Can't believe May is 63 years old. Doesn't seem like he could be that old. Loved his rookie season with the Bulls when the Bulls almost knocked off the eventual champion Trail Blazers and Bill Walton. Too bad May's career was cut short by injuries.

Really curious as to why you don’t want our 4s to be able to hit threes...
