With Tyger receiving an offer from UCLA, scheduling an official to UMD, and generally shying further away from Purdue. I'd venture to guess we're pretty much doomed on that front. Where do we think Matt Painter will look next?

Found an interesting link about top Alabama PG Myreon Jones: http://highschoolsports.al.com/news...anked-2018-basketball-recruit-leaves-huffman/

The kids best offer seems to be from Ole Miss or Penn State. Does anyone know more about this guy? From what I can see he's a bulldog on the court and valedictorian of his class... basically a purdue guy and good running mate for Carsen. There's a nice little video in the article and it seems like he'd jell pretty easily with Carsen and Nojel next season. I think if we don't get a top100 talent PG for next season we could be in some trouble with our backcourt depth.

We may go back to the old days of getting a 5th year player for depth and experience at PG (and another at PF). We have been spoiled with PJ as a good shooter at PG. We should go that route if we can.

I think we stick with Eastern, Carsen, Hunter, and Cline as our guards for next year, and get PJs bro the year after that.
That being said... We do have 2 schollys open for next season. Why not chase after some more back court talent? Especially when you have to admit theres not a whole lot of primary ball handling on that list there... I see Nojel as the only true PG there and while I love his upside, it would take a major offseason from him to keep us in the upper echelon of teams with just that rotation.

I'm fully expecting a step back next year. I don't think Tyger moves that needle either.

Don't sleep on Sasha either. He has good size and can shoot the ball well. More athletic than Cline as well.

PJs brother is a scoring guard. His game isn't like PJs, but I still really hope we sign him. He is smart and gets buckets. If Painter doesn't sign a true PG, it wouldn't shock me if we see Hunter playing the 1 going forward to back up Eastern. Finding somebody like PJ that is quick, can shoot the three, defend at a high level, and doesn't make many mistakes is difficult. He will be sorely missed.

I believe a top100 2018 PG like Tyger or whoever coming in next year given the keys to the starting 5 would allow us to not take a huge step back, but allow us to stay in the top third of the big ten for next year.

with Ewing's departure, we have 3 scholarships to give.

In reading Tyger's last interview , he was still very high on Purdue. He just wants to explore Maryland and UCLA. I'd love to have Tyger as a passing PG.

As for guards, as somebody noted above, we still have Edwards and Eastern. and we have Hunter , Cline and Sasha backing them up. it's not like we won't have any guards next year.

rather than going after another guard, I'd love to see Purdue go after an elite 6'8 shooting small forward. They do exist!

that is where Malik Hall comes in !!

Another SF Jordan Turner was also visiting from Sunrise.

Don't forget about Sasha as well. Good ball handler and a known shooter with size at 6'5. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Stefanovic ends up being the 1st or 2nd off the bench next season. He looked real good at times during the WUG other than some lapses in defensive assignments....which all freshman have happen.

Eastern, Boogie, and Cline as the mainstays while bringing in Hunter, Sasha, and Wheeler at times is a solid rotation. My guess is that you'll rarely ever see more than one of the first three off the floor at one time barring foul trouble unless it is Carsen paired with Sasha and Hunter.

Looks like a nice player with some size and athleticism. Lots of points and rebounds. Only 2 assists/game, though, so he may be more of a natural SG. Would probably be a good addition, but I'm not sure he would be the answer at PG.

Yep that is interesting. Like I said I was just looking on recruiting boards seeing what was left at PG sand he caught my eye... 2 ast/game in highschool probably wouldn’t get it done as a pass first PG in the big ten

It is just my hunch but I don't think Tyger is Purdue material. I could be 100% wrong but I feel a lot of drama with this kid. If he is looking for a team that will make him the MAN Purdue is not the place for him. If we wanted to be on board he would be by now. I will give the kid credit, I think he knows what it would be like playing at Purdue and fighting for min's and shying away from it. That tells me all I need to know. Like I said, I could totally off base. Time will tell.

He wants to be the man by being a pass first guard? I don't see that at all. I think he rushed in as a junior and realized that was a mistake. I think he wanted more Lalu players to follow him and none did. He needs playmakers around him and DePaul didn't have that.

You could argue he doesn't fit what Painter has had the last four years. PJ shoots lights out from behind 3. Tyger can shoot, but prefers to put the ball on the floor. Personally, I think his shot will improve and with more athletes coming it would be nice to have a more athletic run and gun pg.

Tyger would be a great addition. No argument that he isn't the same type of guard that PJ was but that doesn't mean he wouldn't thrive in this system.

My initial thought as well. Losing PJ and DM from a top 15 team, there should be a good opportunity to recruit a quality 5th year ball handler to rotate with CE and NE next year, but not block any 2019 recruits. If Hunter or Sasha are ready to step up all the better. For those who are content on standing pat, you don’t just leave schollies open. Transfers, injuries, all sorts of things can happen. You need depth.

Funny how perceptions change with time. Just a couple years ago people were wondering how we would replace the tall, athletic, playmaking PG Octeus, saying PJ was pedestrian and did not have the required athleticism. Now that Painter has again adjusted style to fit the personnel, PJ is excelling in his role, and some people areniw worried about not finding somebody to replace PJ’s skills.

Soooo...if a player is Purdue material he commits early, like Swanigan and Haas? I think they kinda made late decisions and worked out acceptably. Just because a kids timeline does not match the fans preference does not mean it will or won't work.

That's the thing. PJ is exactly what this year's team needs. Next year will be a more athletic team who could use somebody to run the floor. Won't have as much shooting, so could use somebody who can create off of driving. PJ is a better fit for this year's team no doubt, but next year will have a very different look. Tyger has decent size and athleticism and seems to have a basketball IQ well beyond his years. I hope we get him for sure.

PJ also really developed and improved. As a junior, people started to really see his potential. He far exceeded most expectations. It will be sad to see him go, which is why I really hope we land Izaiah. Completely different play style, but the potential to be a star is there.

What's Ramey doing? I see he is the ONLY PG Villanova has offered and Brunson is a Junior. MO and tOSU have little ahead of him. Any word on the street.

And just an interesting aside, TJ Moss and Tyler Harris are undecided 4-star PGs and both play in Memphis.

Many of the same schools who offered Ramey offered one of those two.

Nova has offered that Jahvon Quinerly (Arizona decommit) too I’m pretty sure.

I don't know enough to have an informed opinion, but my gut has always been right where you are. Matt has been burned and so he must see it a bit different than my gut and you...but yeah I don't see him as a must with what little I know

Tyger to Purdue . And that is why we are not recruiting any other 2018 point guards . IMO move on nothing to see here .
I hope you are correct since Matt wants him. I had bad gut vibes, but I admit I have NO informed opinion. I am interested in his friend from the team as well... ;)
