Are all these guards going to be interested in playing behind Eastern and CE?Would love Carmody! And add a few locals in Hunter, Easily or Phinisee
Not saying all the guards listed are coming here, just giving a wide option. Mathias will be gone and Cline will be a senior by then so plenty of room at the guard spot in a few years. Are all these guards going to be interested in playing behind Eastern and CE?
Tell me what people think about Phinisee. I've never seen him play, what are his strengths and weaknesses??
From a need perspective:
1. Hauser or Johns --- could change if Epperson signs
2. Easly or Jerome Hunter --- need that big 3 to push Wheeler
3. Langford, Eric Hunter, Carmody -- any one of them - especially if Eastern looks like he's going pro
4. Ramey --- if Edwards doesn't want to play PG, and we want him as a scorer, we will need a PG
5. Trapp --- we need a 7' 2" guy every other year.
This is a very important class. I know many thought '17 was, but '18 will need to fill a LOT of holes. It will also be important to keep continuity in the program. And it will be a good test to see if we are becoming a higher choice of the better players.
Who do we end up with? Or more like who do you want?

He said "if". Going forward, if we are going to be recruiting at a top level this will come up more often. When we get more kids like Caleb and Eastern we will have to consider the possibility of them leaving early when talking about future recruiting classes. That is a very good thing, it means we are starting to recruit at a much higher level. If Eastern looks like he's going pro?? He hasn't played a college game yet.....that's a little bit premature, to put it lightly

HUH? I was commenting on prioritizing recruits. If, in the future, there happens to be a slight, even miniscule chance, that he may turn out to be a great player ... it doesn't hurt to have a plan to INCREASE the priority of a future recruit. In no way did I ever SAY I thought he was. Don't put words in my mouth. You must need to make others look bad so you look better, to put it mildly. If Eastern looks like he's going pro?? Take a pill man, nobody said he was leaving early. Do dah was just speculating "if" he did. Jesus, it looks like a couple of you need to go get some eggnog and stay away from the board for a day. Ho Ho HoGenerally you don't worry about four star kids leaving early. Swanigan was a five star and having a very productive season and still doesn't seem like he will be in a position where he can get guaranteed NBA money.
Four star kids I just hope end up being good players for us rather than be extremely worried about them leaving early. I'm just hoping the kid is more like the next Etwaun Moore and not the next Anthony Johnson. If he blows up and puts himself in a position to be drafted that's great for him and the program but it's not really something you plan for. Answer these two questions.
Who was the last Purdue basketball player to leave early for the NBA?
Who was the last four star recruit to leave Purdue early for the NBA?
I think the answers to those questions prove my point.
This. CE and RC are the only PROVEN players we will have on that roster, assuming biggie leaves. Wheeler and Haarms are projects, though I like their potential. JT is a ?, and you never know with jucos. We'll need a couple of frontcourt players that are capable of starting immediately. There is no guarantee that the bigs coming in 2017 will be ready to start at that point.

C'mon TC, the thread is titled 2018 class. The whole thread is guessing, wishing and speculating. Don't really see why you pick out one little thing someone says and make it into something. Is it likely NE leaves early, no and nobody said it was. Why the big deal??Do we have a contingent plan if he grows wings and he can fly too? Sorry I just wondered if we needed to speculate on every far-fetched scenario or just a four star going early. I believe both scenarios have happened the same number of times in my lifetime.

Nobody ever said it was likely, that's exactly my point! Do Dah was simply adding that big "if" to emphasize the importance of trying to get one of (Carmody, E. Hunter or Langford).Never said it was a big deal. Just don't think it's likely and we certainly wouldn't know any better by the time we recruit 2018.
4 guard lineup of Nojel, CE, Cline, and Langford, With Epperson at the 5. Hey - its Christmas, I can wish!Phinissee, Hunter, Carmody & Trapp. If Langford gives us a serious look, then of course Langford above all others.
Hey look, someone is being an ass on Christmas Day!Do we have a contingent plan if he grows wings and he can fly too? For those that are saying 'IF' for Eastern...please just stop. I get you are speculating but that isn't even speculation...that is just pure bs to the likes most of us saw on the old Peegs board. Every player that comes to Purdue isn't suddenly going to possibly become a one and done. The best recruit at Purdue in almost 20 years who led the B1G in rebounding couldn't get a sniff at the first round...what honestly do you see in Eastern's game that makes you think he could come in and get the numbers, let alone the minutes, to make THAT much of an impact to warrant leaving next year? You do realize he would have to probably average what PJT is doing this year across the board AND play defense at a respectable level.
Sorry, but that isn't going to happen. If the kid can come in and give 10-15 minutes next year, average 4 points and 4 assists a game with less than 2 TO's per game in conference...that would be a huge boost next season.
We may want to have a contingency in place in case at some point this year they change the rule and he can go straight to the NBA and skip college completely. Not saying that is going to happen but it is a possibility.
And he did it in a non-douchy way. Imagine that.Thank you for adding some much-needed sanity to this thread.
