Yikes- if MSU gets eastern and Tillman, it's going to get pretty thin.
It is already thin...it was a year in which Painter had to hit big, and thus far, he has had zero success...scholarships were saved and banked for this class...the graduating class in Indiana is loaded, perhaps more so than ever before, and he was not able to land a single guy from it and has yet to land a single impact recruit in the class...maybe his contract extension was not long enough.

So I can keep up now that things are picking up.

These are official offers, with Purdue still on their list (rivals ranking):

74 - Obiagu (?)
75 - Eastern
86 - Tillman
96 - Roberts
143 - Battey
NR - Epperson
NR - Sodom

....thanks for the corrections and updates.
Ok here we go:

74 - Obiagu (?) Not on list anymore cross off
75 - Eastern
86 - Tillman
96 - Roberts: Not on list anymore
143 - Battey
NR - Epperson (Is ranked now #14 for his position natiowide and at La Lu so good chance here)
NR - Sodom (Still an option)

Add to this list:
Sterling Manley from Ohio 6ft 9in Center 235 lbs
Makhtar Gueye from Mass 6ft 8 in 200lbs PF/Center needs weight but has long arms and legs and good hands
Malik Ondigo from Arizona 6ft 10in 210 Center
Jaylen Butz from Indiana 6ft 9in 200lbs PF

My thoughts are Eastern (would be good next to CE), Battey (love his tweener size which creates mismatches), Tillman (Hard nose and good passer) and Gueye (Love his length and shot blocking and would be good with Taylor as two headed PF/C).

Past those I think Epperson, Ondigo and Manley could be a good at the Center position given a few years.

Butz intrigues me because he has the body to be a good PF and has the athletisism, just needs to fine tune his game.....love for him to mature into a SF/PF.

I am sure we will get some good kids soon that want to be Boilermakers.

I will cheer for them all!

Could be. I just know that watching them together might get a little bit salty.

Glad we banked schollys!
If we have a good year, see ya Biggie, Vince and Haas.

I think it's doubtful that Vince and Haas leave and I'm personally skeptical that Swanigan will have any more reason to go next year than this past year but even if we have a great year and all three left I think we would be able to land some good players in the spring with immediate playing time to sell. Recruits that blow up, refugees from programs that change coaches, or 5th year transfers.

We can only hope cause this class is starting to look like a bust if we don't get some good commits soon. What more does Painter have to do with these recruits!? Pitch a tent in their back yard and camp there till a commitment?
Seems like painter puts all this work in and is always in the mix but it hardly ever pays off in his favor. Wonder how he feels after a long recruiting battle fail?? It's tough to recruit kids to a 4yr school and have good classes year in and year out.

I was thinking about that earlier. A competitive guy, former B1G basketball player, and he keeps losing to this little con man who played at BFE State. Gotta be a nut punch.

Like seriously what more does he have to do?? Everyone around the BigTen speaks well of Painter. Sorry he ain't no F*cking Izzo but no one else is either! Kids need to realize that too.

Two straight years we don't sign a kid from Indiana...smh, 2018 class better change that!

Shouldn't we wait until we have a 2017 class before claiming we don't have anyone from any certain state/school/position in it? Just a crazy thought.

Unles something drastically changes (fingers crossed) we won't be singing anyone from the state of Indiana.

I don't think we know enough to make such a statement. The only time things will start to change drastically is when we get commitments. Until then I think we'll be open to all good players and I would be willing to bet there will be a player or two emerge from Indiana this winter/spring. Will it be someone we want when that happens? Who knows? I just think you're making too many assumptions to make that statement.

Drastically...meaning if someone decommits and becomes a Boiler. The top 15 kids in Indiana have signed else where or have no interest in Purdue. I would love a Indiana kid to sign with us, but from the looks of it it's not happening. I see no interest in going after kids that are outside of the top 15.

Just because some fans may not be interested doesn't mean that the coaches might not be at some point.

Yes but highly unlikely from Indiana because the staff has been recruiting this states class for years. I could see late bloomers from other states become Boilers tho. Not trying to be a negative Nancy and argue, just stating facts from the way past years have went.
Never offered Desmond Bane and he was a super late bloomer.

Added wheeler
Looks like Pitt and Providence are the biggest competition program wise to already offer.

When we look further outside IN/regional and work on our new offers, it will put a further strain on the recruiting budget (and time away from other classes.).

I wonder if we could push the budget substantially more though, since painter had previously used max leverage with the Mizzou flirtation, and the new AD is now focused about 99% on football only in the immediate future.

I'm guessing that he needs to seem less robotic and less on repeat. He probably gives a similar style pitch to every prospect he talks with: "I can't guarantee you a certain amount of playing time, but if you play hard, play the Purdue way, take pride in your defense...".

The assistant coaches don't seem to bring much to the recruiting table, either.

Haha yep. I laugh at "the Purdue way" (whatever the hell that means).

Not exactly an attractive pitch. Would be nice if some new blood was pumped into Purdue.
