DH is on it, what a surprise !!! along w/ Miles, Franklin, Stoops (Ken), Holgersen, Petrino ( Idaho), Strong, Malzahn, and Sumlin.

LOL! TOUCHE!.................. Slim to none..but would be nice to see Sumlin come home! Was able to watch him play his last two years my freshman and soph years. Who knows, maybe he would accept a major challenge! It's funny that any name on that list would be a considerable upgrade.
Ironically, Burke's penny pinching is going to cost us a fortune. Any decent coach is going to demand a $3-$4 million a year deal, and at least 7-8 years, like crean and Wilson got at IU when they extinguished those dumpster fires. The talent base will be so eroded by next year that money will be the ONLY reason to take the gig.LOL! TOUCHE!.................. Slim to none..but would be nice to see Sumlin come home! If Purdue will pay him, I think Sumlin would come to Purdue.LOL! TOUCHE!.................. Slim to none..but would be nice to see Sumlin come home! Was able to watch him play his last two years my freshman and soph years. Who knows, maybe he would accept a major challenge!
Again.I'm cringing at the thought of going 5-7 with that weak schedule, making the Quick Lane Bowl, and missing the opportunity to get Sumlin.
Lol! Don't think you will have to sweat out a 5-7 season. I think we can all clearly see that HAZZ is a complete failure on and off the field(Another bottom recruiting class) Even with a more favorable schedule, the teams we will be playing will all be improved! Can't say that about us! Anyways sad to say we can afford a guy like Sumlin, but will we ever do it? Losing a cool 800k to a Million in loss revs from attendance as it is now(per game X 7). Packed house, the money would be there. We need a big splash in order to get the fan base back.I'm cringing at the thought of going 5-7 with that weak schedule, making the Quick Lane Bowl, and missing the opportunity to get Sumlin.

$6 mil would make the balance sheet a little less bloody. They dont care about ticket revenue. The TV revenue is guaranteed and makes 800k a game look like pocket change.

Nice Salary$6 mil would make the balance sheet a little less bloody.
Hardly chump change in the tune of 6-8mil!!! More than enough money to pay for whole new staff! That has to more of a head scratcher for most! They dont care about ticket revenue. The TV revenue is guaranteed and makes 800k a game look like pocket change.
We will be so bad for Nielsen ratings, I am worried the Big Ten will kick us out. When TV money is increasing at $2M- $5M a year and with the ESPN contract coming up, butts in seats will be less and less important.

You're right, I brag about research all the time. No other schools research.Honestly, Purdue could go 0-12 the next decade and they'd never kick Purdue out. You honestly think they would kick a founding member of the conference out simply because the football team is a joke? Let's neglect all other aspects about Purdue that make it a huge asset to the conference...one of the best cancer research centers in the world, one of the premier men's and women's basketball programs in the conference, a volleyball team that is one of the best in the best volleyball conferences in the county, and a whole host of non athletic aspects as well. Just silly to honestly think that would happen considering NU was probably much worse in the early 80's.

It was a joke, calm down Francis. Just enjoy those VB matches and being a "premier" basketball school with no men's Final 4s in the last 35? years. None in my lifetime and I am 32. I have always maintained the Big Ten needs us. For the brand (OSU, Michigan) to be relevant you need road apples to fill out a schedule.
Since my joke sailed over your head, people in the thread have mentioned that TV money makes Purdue not care about attendance. If no one will even watch our product it would drive advertising down and the Big Ten would say we are killing them. But it was mentioned in jest.
But you are forgetting how admired Burke is by the rest of the conferences ADs. I wonder why that is?You're right -- every Power 5 conference appreciates a doormat or two -- the other B1G schools love our football program, especially now with the 9-game conference schedule, because it's like having another MAC school on their schedule, while still getting credit for B1G win.
They won't kick us out, but whose to say they wouldn't give better programs a bigger cut of the take, and suck-ass programs like ours a smaller cut?Honestly, Purdue could go 0-12 the next decade and they'd never kick Purdue out. Mitch keeps sending open letters about not spending on athletics might change that.Honestly, Purdue could go 0-12 the next decade and they'd never kick Purdue out. Athletic capitalism? Interesting idea. I don't think that is too far off. Maybe do a Governor's Cup point system. They won't kick us out, but whose to say they wouldn't give better programs a bigger cut of the take, and suck-ass programs like ours a smaller cut?
Let's face it, right now we are suckling on the OSU/UM teat. How much longer before they argue for a lions share of the TV money?Athletic capitalism? Interesting idea. I don't think that is too far off. Maybe do a Governor's Cup point system.

What's even more interesting is what they say at his entry on the list;
4. Darrell Hazell, Purdue – Darrell Hazell has now coached three seasons at Purdue and his records on the board are:
Overall: 6 – 30
Big Ten: 2 – 22
Please…ANYONE…tell us why Darrell Hazell is still the head football coach at Purdue?
That is what one would call the Sounds of Freaking Silence!
IMO we have zero shot at getting Sumlin. he's a top 5 coach, based on his salary, and we aren't going to offer a coach anywhere near the $5M he's currently making. i love the thought of it, but i can't see any scenario playing out that would make it a possibility.I'm cringing at the thought of going 5-7 with that weak schedule, making the Quick Lane Bowl, and missing the opportunity to get Sumlin.

I'll hold out hope for Sumlin that he comes home. Alot of Mich. backers never thought Harbaugh would be hired (although the $6 Mil / yr helps). The scenario is:
Sumlin gets canned by A & M.
Burke gets sent to the AD basement to staple papers together, and an AD in waiting comes on board.
Sumlin says, "hey this new AD actually knows football, I could work for him!"
Daniels lets the new AD offer a $3 mil/year contract to Sumlin.
