As it's done the last season or two, the NCAA released a video communicating major rules changes or points of emphasis for the upcoming season. Here is this year's video:

As expected, there's a continued emphasis on the recent talking points like freedom of movement and reducing physical play in the post.

What stood out to me was some technique changes/refinement that will be important for post players to adopt:
-Posting up with a straight arm to wall off the defender is a foul.
-Keep the ball below the waist or above the shoulders while having vertical forearms (essentially an “elbows in” posture), and it sounds like the offensive player shouldn’t be called for the foul if there is contact. Keep the ball between the waist & shoulders or have horizontal forearms (essentially “elbows out”), and contact should be called an offensive foul. These apply to moving the ball from one side of the body to the other which means they should apply to players who get trapped too.

Does anything else stand out to the rest of you?

Around 11:00 they talk about how there will be legal contact in the restricted arc under the basket as long as the defensive player elevates in an vertical position in an attempt to block a shot, calling that play as if it was anywhere else on the court. At around 11:50 they use Haas as an example of a player legally blocking two shots in the restricted area, despite the offensive player's contact with him during the shot.

And at around 7:05 they show two IU players fouling as an example of what needs to be called a rebounding foul this season. Loved it how we are used to illustrate how to do something correctly, and IU is an example of what's illegal on rebounding moves on foul shots.

Then around 20:30 they used another IU player to illustrate illegal perimeter pivot foot reset (that should have been, but wasn't called on a made three-pointer). This is something Vince seemed to get hit with quite often last season, and it's now a point of emphasis this season. CMP even pointed out to officials that although he looks like he's shuffling before he starts his dribble, most often he wasn't moving his pivot foot and shouldn't have been called a travel. It will be interesting to see if he gets even more attention for that "quirk" in his dribble-start now.

We will have to keep bumping this thread to see if officials are actually making these calls throughout the season.

You're crazy. According to the expert analysts on this board, CMP never talks to officials.

Great examples Tex. Very thankful CMP isn't like that. I admit there have been times I wish he would be more demonstrative with refs but I don't want him acting the fool.

The vertical cylinder for the offensive player should help stop the flagrant foul calls as this is a violation of the players vertical space if in fact they remember to call it that way.

I think that the rule changes are great. I felt like the rule changes/emphasis of previous seasons have made post play really tough and this year's changes even the playing field again. Specifically, Haas was put in an almost impossible situation where the defense could practically mug him and he had no practical means to even secure the ball. If called correctly, Haas will be very tough to defend. This year's emphasis does for post play what last year's emphasis accomplished on the perimeter.
