This year is a good example of people on this board over
emphasizing what we have and underselling what other teams have. Look at what strides
Kendrick Nunn, Hartman, Williams, Koening, Hill and Loving are making. Kendall
fits into this group but he is not playing along with better players like these
guys and we continue to think somehow we will pass these guys with age and
worse recruiting. Look at this year's class and I'll say I love Edwards game,
but give the higher rated Diop, Chatman, Tate and Black time and they will
likely still be getting the best of us. Freshman numbers can be deceiving on
poor teams. I think McIntosh is a real nice player, but I do not see his
numbers skyrocketing in years to come, it will be more of the same maybe a 3
point jump to 15 a game, but his teams will be terrible(yet still own us in Welsh Ryan). Haas is real good, but
the only guy close in size I can compare to is Kaleb Tarczewski on Arizona.
Haas will never be that athlete and rim protector, so how can we expect him to
lead us to the promise land when that guy only thrives with about 6 burger
boys. When Purdue and Painter had a top
10 recruiting class they were a top 10 team for 2 years.
When you recruit
between 20-35 you get developmental
players or potential bad fits. The regression of guys like Bryson and Basil
really kill us when we fall in this 20-35 category. The people who say give it
time do not realize time does not get you better, players only can. I think
Raphael and Hammons represent the university with class and Raphael plays his
heart out, but the truth is those 2 seniors might not ever have a chance to
play in the NCAA by February their eliminated every season at Purdue. How many guys do we
need to leave early or get hurt/suspended for us to seriously compete in the
conference? I just wonder what people who have faith see as the key to getting
us better than teams that beat us pretty consistently and recruit better than
us? Remember teams that have guys leaving early this season also get to play some of those coveted transfers we missed out on in recruiting!
