nothing against them but I was surprised they made it in during a supposed down BIG10 conference and didn't really make much noise in the tournament.

And a 9 seed. Michigan wins Big Ten tourney and is hottest team around and 7 seed.

IMO, I think this was a unique year in that the "bubble"/back of the at-large field was simply unimpressive. In other years, I think Michigan State might have been passed over. I guess their metrics and schedule were good enough to get them solidly in this year....as it turns out not anywhere near the bubble. Two wins over Minnesota really helped, then one over Wisconsin, one over Michigan and Wichita State were I guess their best wins. Not as impressive as typical Michigan State teams....but in the end, not enough teams left out that were really deserving.

It's because the B1G isn't "down" at all and is a cop out for those that can't handle Purdue winning the conference crown. There are just some non-traditional teams at the top but yet was the same type of year where the B1G schools beat up one another.

They deserved to get in. Big ten did not have a down year except there were no dominant teams at the top. The 4-13 teams were probably better than most years. Msu was right there with northwestern in most computer polls and had 10 conference wins. You take away their loss to northeastern and they had a pretty good resume.

If you want to beat up on a conference for stealing seeds, look at the big east. They had 7 teams, seton hall, Marquette, and providence were all bubble teams at best and got in. They had one great team (nova) and butler had a couple marquee wins over them, but I would say there is a big drop off from ther and their third best team might by the sixth best team in the big ten. They did not play a schedule like the big ten where teams were beating up on each other.

I think M$U is in on a "legacy" pick. They and Syracuse both were iffy and as whiny as Whizzo is he is not nearly as abrasive and unlikable as Boeheim so M$U won the coin toss. If Bobby was still at IU they'd be in that same group although he'd never have recruited the same selfish stiffs the Clapper did.

There has been some speculatiob hey went off the computer polls more than RPI this year, that benefitted MSU. Also would be hard to not take 7 from the big ten. I feel like that is why USC got in, they felt like they needed more representation from the P12.

And don't feel bad for Illinois state, they played one top 50 RPI team and they were 1-2 against them (Wichita state) with their only win at home. They had 3-4 bad losses.
