Initially I had thought we were a top 5, but our performance in the last 5 games says not. We are a #15, at best, and just played down to a #2 in the NCAA.
Yep. Biggest blow is that the 1 seed is likely toast.Initially I had thought we were a top 5, but our performance in the last 5 games says not. We are a #15, at best, and just played down to a #2 in the NCAA.
Come on. A 1-seed is nowhere near "toast." I'm as disappointed as anyone in this performance but it's January 3rd. You can't make that conclusion.Yep. Biggest blow is that the 1 seed is likely toast.
Double digit favorites at home playing against a team with two real offensive players.
Brutal.
I hope I’m wrong. But Purdue hasn’t looked close to a 1 seed since November.Come on. A 1-seed is nowhere near "toast." I'm as disappointed as anyone in this performance but it's January 3rd. You can't make that conclusion.
Neither has Duke or Gonzaga.I hope I’m wrong. But Purdue hasn’t looked close to a 1 seed since November.
Unfortunately, Purdue doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt like a Duke or Gonzaga does.Neither has Duke or Gonzaga.
Not if you’re fatally flawed with non-dynamic guards. That’s not a problem that can be fixed.Long way to go. Gotta square a lot of things up right now. They'll get back on track. To be honest if they're playing well in March it doesn't much matter to be a 1,2, or 3. Sure you want a 1, but they can still win games if they're not.
Of course they can win from a 4, 5 or even 6 seed. But the numbers don't lie. #1 seed has a much better chance to win it all and it's really not close. While I'm not jumping off a ledge, to say it doesn't matter is simply not true. Seeding makes a huge difference.Long way to go. Gotta square a lot of things up right now. They'll get back on track. Hence the qualifier "if they're playing well." Of course seeding makes a huge difference. I've been one of the biggest proponents of that idea over the years. If they can get the rotation squared away and start playing D against the better players they're up against, I have tremendous confidence in this team.Of course they can win from a 4, 5 or even 6 seed. Lots of season remainingYep. Biggest blow is that the 1 seed is likely toast.

This team...as is...not even remotely deserving of a 1 seed. Plenty of season to go, but, as it stands, this team right now has way more questions than answers unfortunately...and that has not traditionally been the case in January, which, makes it concerning.Yep. Biggest blow is that the 1 seed is likely toast.

Agree, but, Purdue has already lost two conference games that it should not have...and, looked awful in both of them.Come on. A 1-seed is nowhere near "toast." I'm as disappointed as anyone in this performance but it's January 3rd. You can't make that conclusion.
Last season, Illinois lost to an awful Missouri team on the road and to a Maryland team that was way worse than Wisconsin at home, dropping to #22 in January … all on the way to a 1-seed and finishing #2.Yep. Biggest blow is that the 1 seed is likely toast.

Fair enough. I think it’s more about their form.Last season, Illinois lost to an awful Missouri team on the road and to a Maryland team that was way worse than Wisconsin at home, dropping to #22 in January … all on the way to a 1-seed and finishing #2.
To say Purdue can’t get a 1-seed based on this one loss is crazy. Now, maybe they don’t improve enough to get it, but their losses have hardly shut the door.
You have to understand this forum. People come out of the woodwork and have meltdowns after every loss. Trust me, this forum isn't even where most of the fans are anymore. To say Purdue can’t get a 1-seed based on this one loss is crazy. But yeah there are threads that are saying that.Nobody is saying we cant get the number #1 seed.
It’s never a good time to lose at home as a 12+ point favorite. You have to understand this forum. People come out of the woodwork and have meltdowns after every loss. Trust me, this forum isn't even where most of the fans are anymore.
There is entirely too much basketball left to throw in the season in January and we have gone on long runs after losses like this before.
It's also better to go through these things now long before the tourney so they can be addressed.
And it’s not exactly like we dominated in our win against Iowa, at home, without their best player…. If Murray was playing we are most likely looking at an 0-3 start. Just off the 3 conference games we look like a bottom tier big ten team. Need to get this turned around fast.Agree, but, Purdue has already lost two conference games that it should not have...and, looked awful in both of them.
Like say, I am ok with not playing their best basketball in January, but, the way this team is playing in January is pretty alarming.
It does not mean that it could not fix things in the next two months, but, having played two months already and seeing where they are at...I will admit that I am definitely concerned...no way I would have ever believed that Purdue would be 1-2 to begin conference play and playing like garbage for the most part come the first week of January.
Miami is 5-0 in ACC play. I'd say they are a NCAA team.Duke and Kansas lost yesterday. And Duke's was at home to a non-tournament level team. I guess they can't get a #1 seed now.
Their NET is 80 even after yesterday and the ACC is not what it normally is. ATM they're not a tournament team.Miami is 5-0 in ACC play. I'd say they are a NCAA team.
My point exactlyPurdue lost to a top 25 Wisconsin team. Whoop-tee-doo...
You think we're not going to lose again?
they are tougher now w/ Baker back, who was absent when they played us.Not sure what thread to throw this in, but Rutgers is now a Quad 2 loss, fairly securely. Their recent run has moved them to 116 in NET, where 135 is the top end of Quad 2 for a road game. They are the definition of Home Court Heroes though. Except for losing to Lafayette at home, they've won all their home games and lost all their road games. 5 of their next 7 are on the road.
