Wisconsin is coming off a home win against Rutgers this week, 78-66, and Purdue is returning home after a win at Illinois on Tuesday, 77-71, where the Boilers clinched the outright conference regular season championship. These two teams met back in the beginning of February in Madison, where Purdue won 75-69. The Badgers haven't gotten back on track much since and are 3-7 in their last ten games. What was working at the start of the conference season - good shooting and solid defense has become somewhat inconsistent, but this is still a solid NCAA-tournament team with plenty of players who can produce on both ends of the floor. Wisconsin is still in play to get a double bye for the upcoming BTT, currently tied with Nebraska for fourth place at 11-8 a game ahead of Iowa and Michigan State.

Wisconsin is led by AJ Storr (averaging 16.2 points per game) and Tyler Wahl (averaging 11.5 points per game and 55% shooting). Max Klesmit provides additional production and has scored in double digits in three of his last four contests. He is averaging 9.7 points per game.

The Badgers are currently 23rd in the KenPom ratings, 18th in offense, 62nd in defense. They are towards the bottom in adjusted tempo ratings at 312 with their deliberate style. Wisconsin has scored at least 70 points in five consecutive games and is scoring an average of 74.6 points. The defense has been the issue this past month but is keeping opponents to an average of 69.5 points.

One should expect Wisconsin to be competitive in this game. These teams recently have played competitive fairly close games. And particularly against Purdue, Wisconsin has played quite well under head coach Greg Gard the last couple of seasons, splitting the last six games. More importantly, the largest margin of victory in these last six meetings was the six-point Purdue win in Madison just over a month ago. Purdue also hasn't gotten off to the best of starts in several games recently. Four of the Boilers ' last five wins have been by eight or fewer points.

There will certainly be some energy from the crowd - Zach Edey's last game in Mackey Arena, along with the rest of the seniors including Mason Gillis, Lance Jones, and Ethan Morton. Purdue will need to re-focus and execute well after coming off a big win at Illinois. The last time around, Wisconsin struggled from long-range, going 3-19.....expect a better performance, and they certainly have the potential if Purdue gives them opportunities.

Wisconsin also played Zach Edey fairly well for the most part - holding him to 18 points on 7/13 shooting. That will be a tough task today, however. Purdue also had a good edge on the glass - they'll want to continue that today as well. Also look for Storr to have a better game today - he has the physical style and shot-making capability to hurt the Purdue defense and lead Wisconsin with good decisions.

Can the Boilers keep things rolling and finish the regular season on a high note with the conference and NCAA tournaments just ahead?

We shall see, starting in a little over an hour.

Boiler Up, my friends...
