No doubt, Jalen Graham was missed at SU. I’ll go so far as to say Purdue likely would have won had Graham played. He could have zipped up some of the issues the secondary was having, while providing a calming influence by his presence. Graham probably will be out this week, hopefully back for the game at Minnesota on Oct. 1.

Purdue’s top four tacklers at SU were DBs. Doesn’t seem ideal.

Had to be impressed with LEO Kydran Jenkins. At 270 pounds, he stayed with star SU RB Sean Tucker in coverage, once breaking up a pass that would have been a TD. Jenkins is underrated.

The late-hit by sixth-year senior Jack Sullivan was a head-scratcher. It extended a SU drive that ultimately led to a TD.

No DB has been targeted more in 2022 than Reese Taylor (13). He was one of several DBs flagged for penalties on Saturday. Others: Cam Allen, Chris Jefferson, Cory Trice.

Who pushes the pocket the most? DT Branson Deen leads the team with 15 pressures and 11 hurries. He was handful again on Saturday.

Cam Allen played all 74 snaps, while Chris Jefferson played 72. Think they will be high volume guys all season. Sanoussi Kane played 67. Kane played a combined 70 the first two weeks. He helped fill Graham’s lost snaps. Bryce Hampton, too. He played 22 snaps after having 43 vs. ISU. He didn’t play on defense in the opener. Hampton was left on an island on SU’s final play, getting beat for a 25-yard TD pass while in man coverage. What if that was Graham in coverage?

I still wonder why Purdue was playing man coverage on that game-winning D pass. Heck of a spot to put Hampton in.

Will be nice once K-State CB transfer Tee Denson can play. Maybe in October.

Semisi Fakasiieiki dressed but didn’t play. He didn’t even dress for the ISU game, as he has a hurt ankle. He could have helped with Graham out. Jacob Wahlberg played a career-high 20 snaps vs. FBS foes.

A robust rotation remains on the line. And, it should. There is a definite top eight: No. 1 line is LEO Jenkins, E Sullivan, T Deen, NT Lawrence Johnson; No. 2 line is LEO Scotty Humpich, E Khordae Sydnor, T Prince Boyd, NT Cole Brevard. Nic Caraway only played 5 snaps, his fewest of 2022.
