Yesterday, Ali Patberg of Columbus North scored 39 points in semistate win over Injury plagued Lawrence North. Princeton's Jackie Young scored 45. That is Notre Dame's backcourt the next four years. Versyp was first to offer Young! The team that is desparate for shooters has none on campus and has none in the pipeline. You can not win in today's basketball with slashers and defensive specialists.

Re: The question is why are we missing??

In football the latest direction is that we are after high character players who fit us and that we like rather than 4 and 5 star recruits with speed and skill. I still want to know if there is some inherent disadvantage to recruiting at Purdue or if our athletic department has just given up and hoping to catch lightning in a bottle like Tiller did back in the late 90's??? Of all of our HC's, I would evaluate DH as the most personable with the seeming ability to sell refrigerators to Eskimos whereas SV and MP both come across as very cold, take it or leave it types who seemingly would have a hard time giving schollies away let alone selling them to prime time athletes. Reminds me of a GK without Frank Kendrick. While I am ranting, it also seems confounding to have one of the greatest pure shooters of all time 40 miles down the road in Lebanon still running a shooting school and we keep bringing in shooters and are unable to teach them how to improve their shot.

Unless Patberg is red shirted they will play together for 3 years.
Patberg-2015
Young-2016
Let's try to hire Jeff Walz or maybe Law to replace Morgan as JL sure can recruit.

Good catch. Guess that means the Irish have a good shot at two consecutive Miss Basketballs!

ND knocked us out of the recruiting box when the Curry scandal hit. We have never recovered and unless something radical happens, they will take every Indiana player they want. And now that Indiana has finished ahead of us, Indiana players will now think about which school to go to which was never true before. Fortunately, Versyp has a top rated recruiting class. Only by turning these players into a top notch winning team can these cycles be challenged. It will be interesting to see what will happen next year which is one of the most critical for Purdue WBB that I can remember. The arrow is pointing question mark at best.

What concerns me is when you have two solid recruiting classes in a row your follow ups should concentrate on 1-2 impact players and instead we are recruiting relatives, legacies and prospects who were not even getting other offers. One class doesn't make a FF team and especially when your best recruit is ranked about 25-30.

I believe the projection by the recruiting services of this incoming class is that it is Top Ten and that this years (which had all kinds of problems) was certainly in top 20. So that should produce much better results if this is true. But it will have to play out on the court of course. There is little doubt, however, that this program has taken a serious fall.

You do realize that is SV's best class, but no where near the caliber of other Purdue classes? Wright and Valek were Top 10 recruits and ranked in the top 3 in the country at their position. Graham was also Top 25". Gerald's and Lawless were both Top 30 and Katie was Top 20. Hurns was a sleeper and John's and Hicks were Top 150.

You are right. They are not going to fire her this year. We'll just have to see, but the seat must be very hot.

Hoopgurlz (ESPN) was the only site that I know of that rated the incoming PU WBB recruiting class in the top 10. They rate it 9. Other services that I've seen don't even rate it in the top 25. So what does that tell you? I am very skeptical about this incoming class. Murphy who is the highly regarded PG suffered an ACL injury recently and who knows how that will play out.

We can also bank on at least one or more of the recruits transferring at some point and if this last season is any barometer, they probably won't get much playing time next season.

I don't get why Sharon didn't play the current freshmen a lot more. The few games I watched Purdue was always behind by more than 20 points but Sharon stuck with her upperclassmen, why not give the young players experience and playing time at that point? I found myself shouting at the TV to play the young players a lot more!

Just was a really frustrating season to watch as a Purdue WBB fan. I am not a fan of SV and while some may think this incoming recruiting class is the best thing since sliced bread, I really have doubts how special it really is.

Only time will tell.

The one positive thing that I can see,, this program will now have some depth in the post. That's something we haven't experienced in seemingly decades with this Purdue WBB program. Depth and height in the post. Will SV know how to teach these tall young ladies how to play and dominate in the post. Will this team become a post oriented team now? Something that we have never seen under SV. With the lack of shooters, and all of this height, this may be a new era for the WBB program.

It's not only the recruiting misses, it's keeping the girls in school and keeping them in the program once they're at Purdue. One of the issues with SV that no one seems to talk about is her record of keeping kids in the program. And it's usually the PF types, the Jocelyn Masseys, etc.

somewhat of a devil's advocate position but who of the players who left have done anything at where they went?

If players who have left have done nothing elsewhere it only amplifies the number of poor recruiting decisions made by this staff. Where would we have been without the now unlikely to ever occur again three transfers from Maryland?

And how sad to basically waste the talent of Bays this season. She was a one man team basically, on a team that is probably one of the worst if not the worst in PU WBB history. Would have loved to have seen her with better talent surrounding her. What a waste!

I just wonder how much of the recruiting struggles for both the men and the women were tied to facilities. Mackey was no longer competitive there for awhile, and recruiting has picked up for both programs since the renovations were finished.

I don't know how good of a coach Versyp is, but clearly we have not been able to get the talent we need to be a premiere program. This has been the issue with all of the major sports.

Versyp will remain here until attendance drops to a point it gets attention. Not sure where ticket sales are, but attendance is dropping...and leaving early which I do not remember happening much in the past.

How far does this program have to drop to justify a change? Anyone have stats to show the turnover/assist ratio for the past 10 years? Maybe I am wrong, but I do not see any emphasis on fundamentals that always characterize championship teams.
