3 key factors against us.....

1) Obvious this is a road game and hostile environment
2) MSU is coming off of two tough losses
3) Dawson and Trice, it will be their Senior Night

So lot's of pressure on both teams for this one.......

Sometimes it is tough to have a good night on senior night because of all of the emotions.

No way around it, this game is going to be a tough one.

Boiler Up!

It will be a challenge, but hopefully the team knows the history and shows some pride in being determined not to lose to Michigan State for the seventh time in a row.

Boiler Up

one huge factor for us

They suck at freethrows and the refs won't be able to use that strategy to allow them to give them the game like at Wisconsin and OSU.

2 More Factors against us...

4) Second half D has slipped as of late.
5) Ineffective offensive stretches resulting in 24-28 point halves that allow opponents to hang around and steal wins.

5 Other factors in our favor....
1) They are the worst foul shooting team in the league and the game might come down to who wins the FT battle if this team can improve 5 other factors in our favor this time besides the emotions of senior night you bring up...on #4. We need to win the FT shooting battle.
2) Team appeared to handle the press well in OSU game, one of this team's 3 main weaknesses....so hopefully that struggle is over.
3) Purdue team is ANGRY after letting one slip away.
4) We haven't beaten them in a time and Painter no doubt is talking to the 2 upperclassmen about their need to do that this time around.
5) No more Gary Harris.

Re: 3 key factors against us.....

1. We have to use our size advantage
2. Cant blow the energy tank in the first half on the defensive end.
3. Already mentioned but FTs FTs FTs
4. Have to stop valentine and Dawson.

BTFU!

I haven't been able to follow the Conferance as a whole much this year as I work a lot of 2nd shift...how has MSU done against other teams with size this year ? IIRC they went OT with ND...

I don't think they've played against any other team with two 7 foot postmen regulars. The closest to that they've faced might be Minnesota (Mo Walker and Elliott Eliason) and Minny won that game in OT.

I think this is going to be a big deal. Even my usually confident MSU friends don't have a good feeling about this one. It's nice to be feared again!

Michigan State can still hit their threes, though. Remember, they did set their single-game record for threes made (I think it was 18) against Purdue last season. They still have a couple of those culprits in Trice and Valentine, plus their transfer player Bryn Forbes and their freshman Marvin Clark. So, I think that could be an equalizer unless the Boilers do a good job of containing their drives and switching on their ball-screens.

Purdue wins out. This team is pissed about giving the OSU game away. MSU will have to wait until they play IU to clinch their spot.

Michigan State has beaten Purdue six times in a row, dating back to the 2011 B1G Tournament, so they've played well head-to-head for awhile now and Dawson always seems to be fired up to have a good game (or at least have a highlight-type dunk). So, I guess I'm not as confident about it as you are but I know the Boilers have the pieces they need to win it.

This game scares me a lot more than others and I do not have a great feeling about it.

Michigan State, like most Big Ten teams, has been up and down. They've had some great games and have had some bad games. That's where we seem to think they're "down"….

However, statistically (in Big Ten play), they're better than their record indicates and they are very similar to (and better than) Purdue in many categories.

-4th in scoring offense (Purdue 7th)
-6th in scoring defense (Purdue 5th)
-3rd in scoring margin (Purdue 5th)
-3rd in field goal percentage (Purdue 5th)
-2nd in FG percentage defense (Purdue 1st by a hair)
-2nd in 3 point FG percentage (Purdue 12th)
-1st in 3 poing FG defense (Purdue 2nd)
-1st in rebounding margin (Purdue 3rd)
-Tied for 2nd in blocked shots w/Purdue
-1st in assists (Purdue 2nd)
-2nd in offensive rebounds (Purdue 4th)
-1st in defensive rebounds (Purdue 3rd)

The only 2 things they aren't in the top half of the conference?

-Free Throw Percentage (13th), although Purdue's 11th - so not sure that's some big advantage for Purdue.
-Turnover Margin (11th), but Purdue's 13th

So not sure where everyone sees these clear advantages that we'll win easily.

Those are all great stats, and a good indicator but Purdue is one of the hottest teams in the league right now even with the OSU loss. MSU has lost four games at home including to a Mike Davis coached Texas Southern so their storied home court advantage hasn't been there this year. They're down for certain, and though as you said it's not going to be an easy game, I still look at everything and believe the Boilers walk away with the win.

Three of those games went to overtime, and the other was the infamous FT technical game with Illinois, ending up 59-54. It's still seems like a hornets nest to me, at least for Purdue....and this is Dawson's last home game, isn't it?

Michigan State plays solid defense. I think it comes down to (like most games) who hits the shots when the opportunity arises and taking care of the ball and your FT's.

I like Purdue's chances better than before, but I'd still have to give the edge to the Spartans.

Most of us seem to agree, it looks to be a hard-fought defensive battle.

I don't know why we'd dip into MSU's non-conference play considering Purdue has some horrific games to bring up too.

And yes, have we been playing well lately for the most part? Sure. But there have also been flashes of uncertainty in that as well. And also, in the last month we played Rutgers twice, Nebraska and IU, in addition to the Ohio State game. So yes, have we played well lately? Sure. But we won our best games of the year a little while back. And we've lost our 2 road games against 2 decent teams in the last month - at Ohio State and at Minnesota.

Yes, we're playing well, but I don't think our play is heads and shoulders above MSU's.

Yep, one team hasn't been playing far superior to the other lately. I hope we see a game where the Boilers excel in all aspects. Here's to hoping they get the W and ruin Dawson and Trice's Senior Night tonight!
