This is if I were the coach how I would have been planning for next season already.

Start Amiyah at point guard, play her 25 minutes a night there.
Play Poole 15 minutes a night at point, and 10-20 a night backing up the shooting guard spot
Start Jones at shooting guard. Tell her to work on her outside shot and develop a solid pull up jumper in the off season. Play her 25-30 minutes a night.
Start Swanson at SF, basically a 3 guard offense, play her 20-30 minutes a night.
Start Stevenson at PF, play her 25-30 minutes a night. Maybe some at center if we go small or the frosh are struggling
Play McKenna backup at both forward spots 10-25 minutes a night depending on matchups and her development.
Start Puryear at center and play her 20 minutes a night.
Play McCarthy at backup center, 10-20 minutes a night.

Spot in Mila at either forward spot as needed and for a change of pace.
Spot in Smith at SF or guard as needed and to keep players fresh.

I would also full court press 40 minutes every game to make best use of the depth and athleticism on the roster.

This counts on/assumes McKenna and Jones stepping up, Amiyah and Poole being game ready day one, and the frosh posts able to play defense at the position.

With the transfers, I would replace Smith with the best of the lot and the other two can sit at the end of the bench with Alaina and practice cheer routines.

IF you play the portal girls, you are taking minutes and development from the underclassmen and delaying, destroying our chances of getting back to the top of the Big Ten IMHO. I am not sure any of the transfers so far are even better than Smith.......... They are an absolutely unnecessary risk to team chemistry IMHO

It wouldn’t surprise me a bit that if Harris commits we see an opening night lineup of Reynolds-Harris-Lombard-Swanson-Stevenson. Would love for Bass to commit and that way we see a Bass-Stevenson-Swanson-Lombard or Harris-Reynolds lineup. I think Spider and Poole are likely playing major minutes, guessing Petree is a specialty 10-15 minute off the bench reserve. Just a guess, I know nothing about the 2 bigs being brought in. I see maybe Smith getting 5-10 minutes, maybe Layden as well, Harper and Reynolds probably don’t play much, get those degrees ladies!

If your lineup starts, expect 3-5 portal losses next portal season.

Hearing Harris is a done deal.

Possibly, just my prediction, no idea if it happens like that. As for portal loses, that’s what the game is now. Hopefully, Poole and Spider get 20 minutes a night, those should be the ones I wouldn’t want to lose. Extra Covid years end this upcoming season, not going to see the 5th and even 6th year players take time away from younger players.

For what it’s worth, right now I expect this to be the starting lineup, even with the current additions.

Amiyah Reynolds
Rashunda Jones
Sophie Swanson
Mary Ashley Stevenson
Alaina Harper/Kendall Puryear

Lombard as the first off the bench, with the potential to start over Jones.

If Harris commits does this change? I doubt if she commits it’s under the pretense of being a 7-8th player.

Hopefully, Bass is brought in, I can’t see anyway Harper starts, I have a hard time believing she plays much, probably a great kid, just don’t think she’s talented enough to start at a Big Ten level program.

NONE of these 5th year players committed to us to be 7-11 on the bench..... that is why I pretty much EXPECT next year to be a disaster because of team chemistry issues.

None of it makes any sense. Good luck winning games with Harper as a starting post player. Did I watch the same team as the coaches?!

She showed literally no potential to be more than a 5-10 min per game player. And had limit athletic ability shows very few signs she has potential to grow anymore as a player.

Ehhh, I think Petree may of. CKG doesn't strike me as someone that would blow smoke up someone just to get them to commit. I'd imagine it was more of a "you can compete for minutes and add experience on and off the court" conversation vs "We expect you to start and play 25+ minutes".

Lombard may have been pitched a different role.. I think she's a little more dynamic/athletic.

Obviously both play different positions.. Lombard seems more of a 2/1 while Petree will play the 3/4 possibly in spurts.

I don't buy the team chemistry issue to be honest, I don't know if you have inside info or know the kids and what kind of teammates they are.

Until they prove to be selfish teammates, I'm going to assume they are all good kids who want whats best for the team. I get that everyone wants to play, but it's just not a reality. Jayla Smith was probably told she would have a bigger role this past season and that didn't come to fruition but she was still a good teammate.

These girls understand its a big step up in competition from C-USA/WAC. Petree even came from a bad team.

Now if we land Harris? That could be a different story, coming from a winning Big Ten team. She's talented enough to start here too.

I expected to add 3 players to shore up weaknesses. This 3 would’ve been Bass, Harris, and a shooter (the Aussie kid would be perfect).

Not 3 wings who averaged single digits this past year and maybe Bass.

Yeah I posted in another thread, 3 felt like a good number, and I would have also preferred a more proven shooter.

At the least, Petree and Lombard provide depth and some athleticism.

Sure, I think alot of us(myself included) expected we could get some higher rated/more proven players, but I've come around to the idea or sprinkling in these lesser known transfers instead of players who would start over jones/swanson/amiyah and take the majority of their minutes.

Maybe this was the plan all along? Correct me if I'm wrong, but did we even go after a bunch of highly rated guards/wings in the portal? I don't remember hearing us reaching out to a bunch of big names.. Falatea, and Heal were the only two I could remember.. not sure how hard we went after them.

Again… isn’t that what Smith and Layden are for? Athletic wing depth pieces who haven’t shown to be big scorers? What the heck are they supposed to do? Braid each other’s hair on the bench?

So instead we are taking minutes away from Poole, McKenna and probably some from Jones? How does this help us in two years? Especially if we lose 2-3 of those players transfer out after the season because they feel the coaches betrayed them by getting marginal players to play in front of them?

The idea that a 3rd year coach from NAIA backround off a losing season was pulling "difference makers" from the portal was pure delusion from the start. What this is? Who knows other than a cluster F#$% that is far more likely to result in chemistry issues and portal losses after next season than a single win.

I think the staff wanted a couple of more proven players than Smith and McKenna specifically. I don't blame them for looking for another player similar to Smith(longer wirey wing)(Petree) considering how inconsistent Jayla has been. I'd imagine one of those two gets the backup 3 minutes while the other rarely plays. I kind of view Mckenna more of a stretch 4.

No one better be braiding hair on the bench, they need to be focused on the choreographed dances.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how all the minutes shake out, especially if we get Harris. I think the majority of the younger core will still get enough minutes to grow but we'll see.

Every minute you take from them is a loss of development and raises the chances of them leaving. Especially if they are losing minutes to players that are not SIGNIFICANTLY better than they are, which I don't think Lombard or Petree are an upgrade over even Smith at this point. So, we add three defensive specialists, are we going to try and win games 12-10 now?

And…. We just lost MA to the portal!
