Welcome to game day! It's almost balmy in Madison ... almost.

A lot on the line for Purdue, which will face a somewhat desperate Wisconsin team (3-4 overall, 1-3 Big Ten) that is looking to salvage a season that’s threatening to circle the drain under an interim head coach.

A Purdue win not only would end 18 years of misery and a 15-game losing vs. Wisconsin, but it also would put the Boilermakers alone atop of the Big Ten West standings (Illinois is off this week) as they enter an off week next week. A victory also would make Purdue bowl eligible … but this team has goals well beyond that.

To be 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten entering November would set the Boilermakers up for a legit push to win the West and advance to the league title game for the first time. Heck, even at 5-3, 3-2 entering November, Purdue would be in position to make push for the West crown. What's left beyond today?

Purdue is hot, having won four games in a row. The team is riding the right arm of QB Aidan O’Connell, who is coming off a stellar effort vs. Nebraska. And the emergence of a run game (thank you, Devin Mockobee) has made the Purdue offense even more deadly.

Yes, the Boilers have had issues defending the deep pass, but the defense has been stout vs. the run and come up with some big plays, too.

WR Charlie Jones is beat up, and it sounds like he didn’t practice this week. Still, I would be surprised if he doesn’t play. Jones has dealt with lower-body issues all season and still found a way to suit up on game day. He can rest next week.

DB Chris Jefferson (mental health), WR Broc Thompson (knee), WR Elijah Canion (knee) and RB Dylan Downing (foot) are out. LBs O.C. Brothers (knee) and Semisi Fakasiieiki (concussion) are game-time decisions.

Not aware of any other personnel in peril of missing the game. Will have to monitor warmups.
