Just drove by the Co-Rec and the line to get in to see Bernie is quite long. Hard to guess but I would say around 3,000 right now and we are still 2 1/2 hours away. Regardless of your politics it will be interesting to see if Bernie did his homework and understands the amount of cost cutting and tuition freeze that has taken place at Purdue over the last 4 years. Also, it is somewhat ironic that he is there on the Purdue Day of Giving....

I think it is great that Indiana is finally relevant in the primary and that our young people are energized and interested in learning about the candidates.

No political rants please....just an observation about what is happening on campus today.

Agree, doesn't need to be a political thing. Regardless of what candidate may be on campus, it is good exposure for Purdue.

speaking of Indiana being relevant in the primary... Bob Knight was on the campaign trail with Trump.

As for Bernie, it also worked out really well that this came during dead week.

College kids love "free" stuff and no one is proposing to give away more "free" stuff than Bernie.

The idea that he could be our next president makes me want to vomit.

Indiana was far more relevant in the 2008 Democrat primary than it is this year. Trump and Clinton have locked up the nominations at this point. (I say this as someone who really hates both of them.)

Trump hasn't fully locked it up...he is turning the key though.

There's some relevance on the Republican side if Cruz can pull an upset.
The Dem side doesn't matter since Hillary has it wrapped up regardless.

Nothing but hand outs, safe spaces, and immorality from this neo-socialist ideologue and America's youth are just eating it up instead of trying to make America great again. I am seriously concerned about the future of this country when the lazy and entitled millennials take over. Welcome to the USSA (United Socialist States of America) IMO.

I still regret not going to see Ronald Reagan...

I missed him as well because they wouldn't cancel my EE lab.

It was still a thrill to see him drive by in a limousine at 40 mph if you can believe that.

I feel sorry for any of you who live in Indiana...the next six days is going to be bad. I experienced it here in South Carolina a couple months ago.

My advice - don't turn on the TV or radio for the next 6 days, and DO NOT answer the phone.

Is his speech at the co-rec going to be online anywhere? I agree that this is the worst group of candidates on both sides in as long as I can remember, but I still wouldn't mind seeing it if it's at Purdue.

IMHO Purdue and the country need Trumps strong convictions to liberty, freedom of press, the 10th amendment, and greatenes to be great again. Trump will yank us from this PC-haze that allowed unqualified people like Hussein Obama to take the presidencey. This country is at its best when PW (politicly wrong) rather then PC.

I get it. Being attentive to the sensitivities of others is a bad thing. Well said.

The candidates in my mind are 1) The man who will bankrupt the US giving away everything, 2) The money hungry lady who cares about nothing but her grab for power, 3) A man who very well may try to start the "Fourth Reich", 4) And a guy who may or may not be the Zodiac killer.

So all in all, a pretty solid Wednesday.

;);)

Are you're referring to Regan's appearance at the Lincoln Day dinner back in 1980?

If so, I had a unique opportunity then as one of my fraternity brothers was heavily involved in Young Republicans and, Regan also belonged to my fraternity. As a result, my fraternity helped out with a number of campaign stop's duties ranging from driving some of the vehicles from the airport to the Union/hotel, loading luggage as well as checking press passes for entry into the dinner.

I was one who got to check press IDs and was backed up by a "federal agent". As it turned out, the "federal agent" wasn't secret service (although there were plenty of them there) but a treasury agent who had been called in due to the lack of manpower. In other words, he was an accountant (and looked the part, too).

It was odd having journalists, many of whom I'd watched for years on TV, coming up and having to turn them away as they didn't have the correct badge.

That night, we all were invited out to a party at the hotel where they were staying and enjoyed drinks while Tom Brokaw interviewed Regan nearby. The next morning we also got to meet Regan in person as he was boarding a plane. I'll never forget the secret service agent's instructions to us: "When Gov. Regan appears, stay where you are and don't rush toward him". I can only assume had I ran to meet him in my youthful exuberance, I would have been rudely tackled or worse.

Nonetheless, a highlight of my life. Regan was very impressive in person and commanded the room where ever he went. Some of that was probably his height and also his acting background but whatever it was, people were awestruck by his presence.

Labeling any older white male as being racist/homophobic/bigoted/ill-informed when you say ANYTHING that these folks don't like, I.e., "not being attentive to the sensitivities of others" is the new world order and I am categorically angry about this. My best friend in HS was gay and we had an African American baby sitter so a lot of this progressive labeling is, I'm sorry, total bullshit. Someone needs to push back.

doesn't your example in bold exactly prove my point about the necessity of being attentive to the sensitivities of others. It reads to me like somebody wasn't being attentive to your sensitivities.

Completely agree. My waitress at TGI Fridays last week was African American as well. She did a fine job and was tipped appropriately.

I actually find something about this post "troubling". Not quite the right word. That what should be a mundane/routine occurrence is worthy of being remembered and noted in a post, just feels um .. "somehow".

The people that keep telling you how open minded they are, are usually the most closed minded.
There is no other viewpoint but theirs.
