the same week to decide to reverse your decisions to attend Purdue University and play football and basketball for the Boilermakers.
The same week that Coach Jeff Brohm’s team began practice with senior quarterback Aidan O’Connell among the candidates for the Heisman Trophy.
How good must the coaching be for a player without a single offer from a Division I OR II college to throw for 574 yards and five touchdowns against Tennessee in the Music City Bowl without his two best receivers? Did you know that Purdue had three players drafted highly in the NFL and NBA Drafts this year? defensive end George Karlaftis went in the first round of the NFL draft and Wide Receiver David Bell was a third round pick of the Cleveland Browns.
Then star guard Jayden Ivey completed an amazing two year career by being the 5th player selected in the First Round of the NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.
All three Purdue athletes were selected All Americans, all three played on winning teams that had postseason success and all three signed professional contracts valued at a combined $50 Million. Purdue quarterbacks have thrown for more yards and more touchdowns in the National Football League than any other university in the country. Purdue quarterbacks have started six Super Bowl games and won four. George and David both earned their degrees in three years. Jayden is engaged to Caitlin Newton, a Purdue former All Big Ten Volley Ball player and will continue his degree in African-American Studies when time permits. Athletic success and academic achievement are hallmarks of Purdue student-athletes. Best wishes in your future endeavors. Choose wisely because a college decision can be one ofthe most important
in your lives. Athletic success will be important in the next decade, or perhaps decade and a half. Academic achievement must sustain you the rest of your lives.
