Had a chance to go out to basketball today and watch the end of the practice and unexpectedly throw a couple questions at Painter afterward. The video is below. See if you can pinpoint the moment I inadvertently stopped recording and had to re-start.
One quick impression: Caleb Swanigan really had a hard time containing Vince Edwards on one-on-one drives in space. As he should considering the differences between the two, but also it's a credit to Edwards' improved quickness and athleticism, both of those things being pretty evident superficially to this point.
Painter mentioned P.J. Thompson's on-ball defense being a 'pleasant surprise' so far, and the fact he even mentioned it might be noteworthy because Painter never takes the bait on the 'who you like so far?' question this early in practice.
Work ethic check: Last two Boilermakers on the practice floor afterward were Swanigan and Ryan Cline, both shooting threes.
Small note also: Walk-on Jon McKeeman is not practicing. Hip injury.
