This is the first time I have heard of this in the US but it probably will not be the last, especially if we keep voting for Democrats.

On rare occasions judges give overly lenient sentences. I have no problem criticizing judges when that happens, just like I have no problem criticizing overly harsh sentences. But to say that somehow "because we keep voting for Democrats" that now all of a sudden black males will catch breaks in the criminal justice system...

You excused what the judge did based on groups and what you think each group is owed or owes. The individual responsibility of the criminal for violating the individual rights of the homeowner was dismissed based on what groups they belong to.

I made a comment on the selective outrage.

The criminal was tried, convicted, and sentenced according to the law. Now, you might disagree with the sentence. I don't know the whole facts of the case, but on the surface it certainly isn't a sentence I would have given.

But if you don't like the sentence, it isn't the accused's fault. Recall the judge, or ask for him to be fired, or change the law to require a mandatory minimum.

I have no idea what you are talking about as far as "group rights" and "group blame" except I find it ironic you are protesting a whole group being typecast.

This isn't a news story because of the actual sentence handed down. I'm not surprised you want to delve into minutiea so you can avoid the reason why this is a news story.

You justified what he judge did based on the group that the defendants belonged to. As if they deserved a lighter sentence because (you think) black defendants in the past got screwed over. Or because (you think) white defendants in the past got it easy. This sentence [EDIT] shouldn't [\EDIT] have to do with anyone else besides the criminals who are guilty. Correct?

You also never addressed the main reason why this is a news story: Do you think it was inappropriate for the judge to berate the parents of the "racist" baby?

1. the sentence handed down. If he'd hammered the guy, his comments to the family wouldn't have mattered to folks nearly as much.

2. His comments to the family, because he gave such a light sentence, it comes across way worse.

I said I found the outrage on one instance, and the idea that somehow it's going to "continue to happen if we elect Democrats" ironic and quite frankly crazy given the long history of the reverse happening in this country.

In fact, I said it wasn't the sentence I would have likely given, although I don't know all of the facts of the case so I don't know what sentence I would have given for sure.

But to you that's "justified" so quite frankly given your horrible grasp of the English language, why bother having a conversation with you? Other than the entertainment value of watching you say bat guano crazy things.

As for whether it was inappropriate? A judge should never get in the business of commenting on victims. EVEN if you think their point of view is silly, or based on racism, they are the victims, and they have a right to express themselves. You, as the judge, have the right to complete discount their expressions, but you should do so internally. It wasn't the proper place or time to make whatever point he wanted to make.

White teens consistently got better, lighter sentences than black teens despite similar track records and similar offenses.

We see it in adults in everything from how often they are pulled over and searched for drugs in spite of the fact that whites are more likely to have drugs than blacks in these searches.

We see it in how death penalty sentences are handed out.

Now, that's not to say money doesn't matter. I would probably rather be a rich black man than a poor white man all other things being equal when it came to a trial, but it would probably depend on where that trial was and what I was accused of. OJ in Cali? Yeah, he too caught a "break" because he could afford the ultra high dollar defense. OJ in Mississippi? I am not sure there's enough money in the world.

But I most definitely would prefer being a poor white man than a middle class or poor black man anywhere if I'm sitting in the defendant's chair.
