And the trek to Socialism begins

I'm gonna bow out of the discussion at this point, as I don't believe we'll reach an agreement and, frankly, likely neither of us has any power to change the system, other than how we vote. In a larger sense, I'll just say I believe the government is justified in using revenue from taxes to provide services that people need, and that healthcare is something that people need.

Arguments don't need agreement, they need to challenge the other side's ideas. Thought it was good while lasted, cheers.

I'm really surprised that all you smart guys who graduated from a great school don't understand the basic economics of the world economies these days. Socialism is NOT communism. There's a big difference between Marx's dialectical materialism and the social and economic systems of Stalin. Every so called "socialist" country since Stalin has adpoted the basic USSR template. None of them practice socialism.

Neither is there any pure capitalism in the world today. Thank God.
I suppose it depends how you define it, but I believe there is widespread pure capitalism in the world today - not on a country basis, but rather within the ruling classes of countries and within certain industries.

Here is a partial definition from 'investopedia' that I base that on:

Pure capitalism is a free, private economic system that allows voluntary and competing private individuals to plan, produce, and trade without government interference.

Btw, which school did you graduate from?

I stopped reading right there. Arby's employs more people than the coal industry. There is nothing to devastate except a few guys that own the mines. This isn't 1900.

Among the stupidest arguments one could possibly make. "I hear Hitler was against injecting bleach directly into the bloodstream, so as you would hyperventilate about it, you are helping the Third Reich. No surprise, they sound like your people."
The word on the street is Trump credits his quick Covid recovery to the procedure you make fun of.
The only side effect is it turned his hair gray.

And those expanded social welfare programs are the types of policies some Democrats are advocating for (Medicare for all, and the like). But, those policies get dismissed by more conservative folks as "socialism," making them non-starters.

Yes, Scandinavian countries have higher taxes. They are also healthier, live longer, have more "freedom," are happier, and generally have a better quality of life.
Do the Scandinavian countries have open borders?
