Jaron Tibbs commits to Purdue for football just as this spring might have brought with it some more college basketball offers for him, and after spending the weekend around his high school team, I know that basketball would have been his preference had the right offers come along. He's just a higher level of recruit in football, though, so thus the football decision, I'd assume.
Tibbs has a great rep around Cathedral and people really like him, and some folks from Indy suggested to me this weekend — prior to there being any indication Tibbs was going to commit that weekend — that they thought that Tibbs would end up at Purdue, and if he did, that that might be a plus for basketball's pursuit of high school teammate Xavier Booker.
Keep in mind, too, that football is also after his quarterback at Cathedral, Danny O'Neill, who's a junior. Can't hurt with him.
O'Neill just unofficially visited Purdue again last week.
