A few points on the renovation…

-The tunnel is a safety and recruiting issue. The fact that our players walk outside after the game is an area of negative feedback from current and prospective players. It should enhance the atmosphere too.

-The southwest section will be set up like an outdoor sports bar of sorts. Tables will run from top to bottom and the south concourse will feel like the current SEZ. Better renderings will come.

-Student-Athlete dining is the single biggest item in the recruiting process that we fall short on in all sports based on feedback. The new facility will feed all student-athletes, be big enough to host the entire football program in one sitting, and have very cool recruiting lounges for coaches to use on game days since it will be accessible from the tunnel. The location was selected because of proximity to the KFPC, Mollenkopf, and Mackey…all the places where Purdue student-athletes train. Additionally, it is adjacent to the most accessible parking lot on campus.

-Phasing was done in part because the TV contract has a very slow and steady escalator and also to allow the school to assess and learn from the initial phase(s). The project is far from complete. The pavilion must be updated, the north end will need to move closer, and all the steel on the upper bowl will need to be replaced in the next decade…which can be addressed in a variety of ways.

Think of this as the beginning of the process, but a sign of progress that the coaches can sell as an investment in the long-term success of Purdue football and the entire department.
