I would root for the B1G in any situation other than this. O$U does not stand much of a chance, and any of their success in this playoff does not translate to success of the conference. Rather it translates to success of O$U which means elevating them higher in relation to the rest of the conference. They already act like they are the only reason the B1G is relevant in anything. Therefore I personally could not possibly care less.

+1

Can't bring myself to do it.

Yes but let me clarify it is not cheering for O$U per se but any Big Ten team that is there..................

Only reason is because Purdue gets a check from their success..............

Being a member of the Big Ten gets us a cut of their winnings to help us get there someday.

Sorry Big12

Boiler Up!

In Bowl Games I always root for the B1G teams. Since we routinely seem to have poor showings in the beginning of the year against power conference teams, bowl games are the only saving grace of the conference, and unfortunately due to suspensions and sanctions it's thrown a wrench in the lineup matchups making for some awful games. The success of the B1G in bowl games in paramount to changing the image of an "also ran" conference in football. We have all the money in the world (at least at the top) and fan support, but the results haven't quite changed the public perception. In recent years we've gone from SEC 1 and B1G 2, to being lucky if we're considered top 4 (SEC, ACC, BIG 12, PAC-12 have all made a case). The better that the conference is in general and the better of the perception off our football programs, the better it will be to overcome some of the recruiting challenges in our conference. The top teams are always going to get their recruits because they have the money. But the number of kids wanting to come to a big ten program to get the opportunity to play in the storied big ten is dwindling due to on field success of the conference. Something that the leadership doesn't seem to care about as long as they keep getting record revenue from sponsors and fans.

Will enjoy the football but not overly excited about any of the four. I hold O$U in the same esteem as notre dame.

Exactly.

Step 1. They build themselves up

Step 2: Conference teams do whats necessary to build their programs to a competitive level

Then we get to stop looking like a bunch of girls! Dislike them all you want, the big tens road to national acceptance, better recruiting, more tv monety, etc. is muuuuuuch longer without them.

To get respect back to the BIG, absolutely. Not an OSU fan as they annoy me but I have to root for them.

Not I. The past few years of Boiler FB have pretty much taken any joy of watching ANY college FB out of my life. If not for the Colts I would watch no FB anymore.

I always root for whatever Big10 team plays in the postseason. No hate here as I am sick and tired of the SEC and the arrogance. !@$# the Tide!

I have never liked OSU, but over the past couple years I have become a much bigger fan of the B10. This is mostly because I'm surrounded by SEC guys. I'm really tired of the B10 being a middling (at best) or laughingstock (at worst) conference in football.

OSU's success helps Purdue in 2 ways, as both mentioned above:

1. Improves the perception of the B10 brand. Any time you have more people talking about our conference, the better it is for Purdue. There is some trickledown effect - athletes want to come and play the best. Attendance may be better as they want to watch the best, etc.

2. Whereas the above is more abstract, Purdue actually gains directly from OSU's success - they get a cut of the check OSU gets.

So I'm really confused why, if you're a Purdue fan, you wouldn't root for OSU.

As an aside, I always root for the B10 in the NCAA tourney - except for that school down south. Too much cognitive dissonance to root for them.

If it were iu, I'd say 'no way', but since it's not iu and another O$U, I'll bite my lip and pull for them.
