So where will the top 4 teams in the B1G be seeded? Seeding uses RPI in the seeding process. Looking at each team’s RPI before the last weekend and how they did this weekend.
NE (#1), loss at WI and won at MN: They have been #1 most of the season and the loss shouldn’t matter as the will get the #1 seed.
WI (#6), WI dropped down in the RPI with their consecutive losses to PSU and Purdue. WI was without their star Smrek for both matches. Will this be taken into consideration for their seeding? With Smrek back, they take down NE (giving them their only loss of the season) and IA this weekend. Interesting to see where they end up. Do they get back in the top 4 (allowing them to host the first 2 weekends) where they spent most of the season?
PU (#10), sweep both MI and MSU on the road. Strong performance that gives them 3rd place in the B1G – great regular season, especially for such a young team. Shouldn’t go lower than 10, but can the go higher? Either way Purdue will be hosting the first weekend.
PSU (#21), swept both MD and OSU on the road. Good weekend, but I don’t think they could move up to 16 and host any matches.
Looks like the conference is set with 3 teams hosting 1st round matches. It will also be interesting to see how many other teams get in. Other teams with their RPI’s: MN (#43), IN (#74), NW (#79), and IL (#85). We will find out on the selection show that starts at 6 pm.
