Has anyone here read, seen, or heard whether or not CMP and staff filled out the final roster spot with a player from another school?

When interviewed last month, Coach Painter stated that they were sending out feelers to certain programs to gauge interest. I believe they were primarily focusing on players from other B1G programs.

The last mention I remember seeing was at the end of this Indystar article from 7/12 (Link):

"Purdue is expected to add a frontcourt player from another program for depth for the WUG. Painter said Tuesday that player likely would not arrive until the beginning of August."

If the player starts practicing 8/1, that is 10 days prior to the 1st exhibition with Canada. Just for comparison's sake, it seems Nic Moore started practicing with Kansas 11 days prior to their 1st exhibition game against Canada.

thanks!

Is there any inkling of who that frontcourt player might be? They have to be 23 or younger at the time of competition, so I know it wouldn't be A.J. Hammons. I think Mike Watkins of Penn State might be an ideal fit.

Not that you're wrong about him being an ideal fit, but I don't expect the addition will be anywhere near the talent of Watkins.

Is it certain the addition will come from within conference? If so, which coaches are closest to Painter?

No, it isn't certain that the addition will come within the conference. I just thought that that would be a logical starting point.

I think you're accurate in your assumption that it will likely be a player from a team where the HC is friendly with CMP (i.e. Bob Huggins and West Virginia). Maybe it will be Sagaba Konate?:

If he's from Mali, would he not be in the same position as Matthaps Haarzingis?

good point

I guess it would depend on whether or not he has U.S. citizenship (or maybe it's only about being born in the U.S.A.). At any rate, I'm curious to find out who the staff has actually selected as the final member of the team.

So does this mean that after the staff (paraphrasing CMP) "sent out feelers", no one was (at the least) interested in representing Team USA? It would be interesting to find out who they actually tried to contact.

Chris Forman had a tweet that there was someone but they had to decline because of an injury. That is about all I know.

How often does a player from another school join a different school on an overseas trip? I don't recall it ever happening but will admit I don't follow other teams' trips that closely. It always just seemed a weird proposition to me.

Nic Moore played with Kansas in the WUG last time.

Seems like way too many variables to answer that question. How could we know that.

It was supposed to be a player from Missouri St., but that player backed out due to injury.

early on it was said former Purdue players under a certain age could participate I mentioned Hammons and Davis as possibilities. I can understand Hammons not wanting to play. I could understand Swanigan not wanting to play. but I was thinking with one spot left, somebody like Spike might want to join the team.

I am of mind to just go with the team you have. The idea of selecting a single University to represent is likely intended to solve the problem of trying to get a group that f players who have not been together to play as a team. The individual talent is not as high but the collective performance should be better. I submit the U19 team as an example.

We already have too many players sitting on the bench who will want to play in these games. No need to add anymore. Let's see what these seniors can , with this realy interesting mix of new freshmen mixed in.

Hammons and Albrecht are past the age limit of players allowed to participate in the WUG. I believe Rapheal Davis is still within the age limit, so I would assume that Painter and staff asked him if he wanted to participate.

not really, just two (Matt Haarms and Tommy Luce; possibly Grady Eifert if another player had been selected: two of those three are walk-ons)
