Wow. B1G, Undefeated?

I'm in a quandary. Pulling for Michigan, Oklahoma, UCF and Clemson to take out Bama, Auburn, South Carolina and Georgia, but I just...can't...pull for the irish to make the $EC 1-8.

a lot of pressure is now on Michigan to complete the clean sweep. I'm pulling for both Alabama and Georgia to lose.

This is one incredible conference.
It is amazing how cyclical things are. Great season for the Big Ten in bowls for sure.

Almost more surprising than that is how awful the PAC 12 has been. Noncompetitive in many cases.

Bowl games as a whole have been kind of boring, I don't care as long as the Boilers are in one and win. I am not sure if the 4 team playoff and those 2 bowls takes something away from those other 4. I always thought it would be good to do playoff games on campus sites in lieu of conference title games which for the most part are meaningless. It is dumb how you have a month to prep for the playoff game and a week to prep for the Title game.

Rooting for the the Big Ten of course but...
Am I the only one that has to hold my nose for PSU?
That coach and team seem so full of themselves...

Whether it is football or basketball, it seems like we hear every year on how the Big Ten is not as strong as other conferences for different reasons. We know the truth.

If my memory serves me correctly the last time the B1G and other northern teams did this well in the Bowl games was a year when the temperatures were unseasonably cool or cold in TX, CA and FL!

I`m with you,The coach who likes to run it up and brags about the score is a piece of shit.PSU belongs in the east and should have stayed there.

No! I do find James Franklin annoying and I hate the running up the score thing bothered me. Tries the "holier than thou" thing.

I will admit I am not a "root for the Big Ten" guy. It isn't the players or necessarily the coaches, but annoying, arrogant fan bases where I am happy thousands of fans are miserable. I do cheer for or pull for MSU, Northwestern, Illinois, Minnesota (although I liked them better sans Fleck) as I have no beef with those teams. Maryland and Rutgers I still do not associate as being Big 10 teams.

What I find funny is that the B10 reputation for lacking athletes and speed just hung 30+ pts on teams like Arizona, Miami, Washington, etc.

1998. The Big Ten went undefeated. The closest game happened to be between a certain Purdue team and a team from Kansas.

I was thinking of the same year. 1998. Other coincidences along with the B10 sweep and very cold weather: I spent the New Years holiday fighting a subborn cold. This year, it is no different from 1998. I am surviving off of cold medicine and tea.

Not having a team in the playoff really helped our bowl matchups this year. Everyone essentially dropped down one tier and got to play a lesser foe than they would’ve if Wisky or OSU had made the playoff.

In theory, maybe, but I wouldn't go too far with that. I wouldn't say it "really helped."

There's so much parity anymore. When you get past the top 2 or 3 teams in the B1G, you could darn near throw a blanket over everyone else. The talent level (and the level of play) of all the B1G bowl teams is pretty darn good.

I read where the Tax Slayer and Music City sort of alternate their choice of BIG 10 teams. i.e. the BIG 10 will only send a team to one of their two games and it's usually the Music city bowl. it would be nice to play in the tax slayer bowl once or twice.

it would also be nice if a major bowl game was played in the North. All this time, BIG 10 teams have basically played in bowl games that were essentially road games. Teams like Texas and Miami and USC always seem to play in games close to home.

Seems like there is enough bowl games anymore that they could say a team isn't allowed to play in their home state. I think that might be a good way to go.

Heck, Miami played in their Home stadium!
That should not be allowed.

Majorly conflicted....Can I really force myself to pull for Harbaugh so B1G goes 8-0.....?? Or would I really rather know Harbaugh is the only Coach of the 8 who couldn't get the job done....hmmmmmm. Go South Carolina!!!!

A couple things...

1. The Big Ten's success can be partially attributed to not having a team in the playoff. Having a team (or in the SEC's case - 2 teams) in the playoff bumps every team up in that respective conference up a bowl game.

I think this has hurt the Big Ten in the past (including the BCS) as our depth wasn't as good. But for this year, you have to think - when our teams are playing SEC teams, they were playing 2 teams "down" - i.e. 2 SEC teams were in the playoff, the Big Ten had zero. So the top Big Ten team in the regular bowl system was #1 in the conference, whereas the top SEC team in the regular bowl system was #3 in the conference.

Now, that doesn't make everything unbalanced. AZ/Purdue, granted towards the bottom of the food chain, was not an unbalanced match-up. But it certainly was favorable - especially in the SEC/ACC matchups - which were half of the bowl games.

2. The PAC 12 definitely was down this year.

3. The Big Ten didn't play a single Big 12 team in a bowl game. I think this is a shame.

And actually we still had 3 NY6 teams. If Wisky made the playoff, we’d still have 2 NY6 teams. So I think the matchups all played out the way they should’ve except Wisky got Miami instead of Clemson. So still an advantage for sure but not as broad as I originally claimed.

if Michigan wins, all of the attention will be on the BIG 10 being 8-0. there will be no attention on Michigan. if Michigan loses, all the attention and publicity will all be on Michigan for choking and blowing our string. For myself, I prefer the more positive outcome hoping the BIG 10 goes 8-0 giving props and attention to the entire BIG 10.

Michigan is doing their best to let this Outback Bowl get away. Up 19-3 in the third.....fumbled inside the SC 10, then some mistakes on defense (with a personal foul thrown in) and another costly fumble, and just like that, it's 19-16 heading to the 4th quarter. Been a lot of hard hits in this contest, and a LOT of trash talking.
