1. If Burke offered the three Head Coaching candidates he interviewed and that turned Purdue down the same contract Hazell signed?
2. If Burke has actually talked to Hazell recently or this week about his job performance?
3. If Daniels has talked to Burke about the mess we call a football program?
4. If Burke is still drinking the Kool-Aid or if he knows a change has to be made?
5. How much would it take to sign a proven winner to come to Purdue at seasons' end?

I would also like to know how Burke is viewed by college football coaches. I have heard that the word is out that he tolerates football and is much more interested in supporting the other sports. If so, I wonder if Purdue can actually acquire a strong coach with Burke as AD. Step 1 in this process may involve getting Burke out of the way.

I've heard he is way more involved in day to day football items than he should be. Micromanager was the word used

So some have heard he merely tolerates football, while others have heard he micromanages?

Doesn't really matter I guess; its obvious we need a change.

The "people" saying he "tolerates football" are people on this board who say he only cares about Olympic sports which is just not true. I'm not some Burke cheerleader, but there's a difference between message board rumors and what coaches think.

Morgan and I, we get along….. fine. My single biggest criticism of Morgan…is that he wasn’t a football guy. He didn’t have the skills or the background or the knowledge to evaluate what was going on in the football program.” - Joe Tiller

And Gene Keady had somewhat the same perspective. Sorry, I don't have a quote. But in the spirit of saying something nice about MB, he had GK help in the hire of JT, if memory serves me correctly. I like that. GK had a football background and MB went to him for advice. Solid move.

You are correct, Keady helped with Tiller.

If I was put on a search committee, here are my top 3 realistic candidates I would reach out to:

1: Butch Davis: A proven recruiter and proven winner. Had Miami a dynasty before he was let go and he didn't really have any discipline problems there that would be cause for major concern (especially considering it is Miami) along with building UNC up. The issues at UNC were going on long before him and I feel he was made a scapegoat. He would be priority #1 in my book.
2: Bob Stitt: A proven offensive genius and has been looking for a coaching gig at the D1 level. He moved up from D2 this season and showed his offense can work at big time football by beating NDSU on the opening weekend of the season. If you can surround him with a good young recruiter, he would bring excitement back to the program with his offensive game planning. If you look at the D2 rankings, he left Colorado Mines in a good spot and they are sitting at 5-0 now.
3. Not really sure where to go here, but there are a few good candidates I would look at. Mike Sanford (Indiana State), Dino Babers (BGSU), or Matt Campbell (Toledo).

Complete Pie In The Sky Candidate: Doug Nussmeier (OC Florida Gators): He has never been named a head coach and he is considered one of the better offensive minds in college football. Give him similar or more money than Hazell. If he gets hired away, that means its a good things because he has shown he can build and winner at Purdue and the program would be in a state to attract a high level coach (look at Washington post Steve Sarkesian).

We might be able to get Stitt. Currently 3-3 with loses to Cal Poly, Liberty, and Weber State

Butch has too many red flags around him for the BOT to swallow.
IDK the hate with Butch he was cleared. UNC Athletics was the issue and that is exactly what the NCAA investigations have found. He isn't Petrino, he isn't Sampson, etc. I think its worth the risk to get a winner.

Probably. However, he was cleared of any wrong-doing in that UNC case, was he not? Assuming he was and we were willing to overlook any bad publicity that might still surround him, would he really consider coming here? He sounds pretty desperate to coach, but I'd be surprised if he was that desperate. No harm in asking (assuming Hazell is let go - which is not a foregone conclusion, even if we finish with only one win).

Here is what we need to do.

HIre new AD: Gene Keady
Hire new Football coaches:
Head coach: Kevin sumlin
OC: Bob Stitt
DC: GhostofFatJack (just so we will have good inside info when he continues to post on the message board)

Also, make sure Sumlin can bring all his assistants with him as well. Pay them with monopoly money and hope nobody notices.

This post is tic. But what the heck. All aboard!

Gotta pass on your offer for two reasons, too old, just turned 64 and our HS team has more 4 star rated players committed to D1 programs than Purdue has!

Well Ghost, based on your last post you have now inherited the role of Recruiting Coordinator as well. Bring those 4 star boys up to West Lala with you. And for age, I did name keady as the AD. So you will bring some youth within the athletic department.

Purdue made a run at a couple of our players but it is a tough sell with the program the way it is at Purdue and the northern weather since most of them have never even touched snow! You need a young man to run across the Midwest and relate and recruit young athletes today, I just have to coach em here not recruit them!
