Would anyone here be upset if Painter did this?

I don't think he's wrong to be upset with the players. A bit more demonstrative than he probably needed to be right there on the court at that point in time. Could have made the same point just as harshly in the locker room or film room but whatever. I don't see it as a big deal.

I think Crean's reaction on the court was mostly for public consumption --- to demonstrate that he takes good sportsmanship seriously. I don't have a problem with it.

It's one thing when a little-used walk-on launches a three at the buzzer. But an every-game player showboating after everyone else on the court has stopped playing is a little much.

I also looks a bit fake when he's known for his blow-by handshakes after games. If he really cared about sportsmanship......

If you read his lips, he's lost his Christianity...or so it would seem.

If your point is that Crean is a phony you'll get no argument from me. I think he is a caricature of what he thinks a coach is or should be doing at any given point in time. Almost nothing seems genuine with him. I guess he's done well to get where he is though so you got to give him that much.

It would never happen with one of Painter's players. Ever. Queen's players are a reflection of his own lack of sportsmanship. See "blow by handshake", "arguing with opposing coaches", etc.

I suspect Painter's off the court vehemence (and actual punishment) would be far FAR worse than Crean's television act that certainly has little teeth in it after the game. Of course I'd be shocked if any PU player did that in that situation.

Yeah more narcissistic behavior. Nothing is genuine with him. Everything is meant to draw attention to himself. Sociopath

I've said it before but i think he really believes people attend games just to watch him coach. sad

Sportsmanship is important. However it is still just a game. While if I was on the other team I wouldn't like it, about 5 seconds later I also would forget about it.

I'd expect Painter to do the same. Or, when they're taking piss poor shots late in an Iowa game. If you're not playing the game the way a coach expects....you should be disciplined.

Except it happened with Anunoby already this year (and he was ironically injured when it did), it happened with SheShe, and it happened at least once, if not twice, with Oladipo...so, while your point is certainly a fair one, hard to understand the line being drawn with Green.

He didn't chew out Elston when he tripped a Northwestern player. Instead he defended him. I believe it was for public consumption to make up for his team's performance lately and his "handshake issues". Look at me, I'm a good guy and win or lose I do the right thing.

I believe it was for public consumption...as well

Quit going after IUs players. There isnt anything wrong with the characters on that team. It was an 18 year old kid that got ahead of himself. Crean is the problem. He's a hack.

Agreed. Queen couldn't coach at the boys club. Maybe boys town but definitely not the boys club.

I'm not a Crispy fan, but don't have an issue with what he was doing, just thought the approach was over the top. Call for the player(s) and join the end of the handshake line while discussing it with said player(s). Apologize to the opposing coach if warranted and address it at the next practice, while running bleachers or something like that.

I would expect that Matt would wait for a private moment. Like in the locker room.
I agree with that. If you watch the end of our games when we are up big even the walk-ons dribble out the clock instead of running up the score on the last possession. Kind of like Brady's comments regarding Brown posting the live video from the Steelers' locker room saying "Belichick wouldn't have like it if his players had done it." When your coach lets you know what is expected then holds everybody to the same rules you don't need to put on public displays like Tommie does.

Actually if the walk-ons at the end of the game are still going 100%, then I am in favor of playing to the buzzer. I would hope all play to the end of the buzzer. It would be great to say that they scored 6 points or grabbed 3 rebounds in a BT game years later.

However, in this case, it was a starter with the ball and only one defender came back on D. Rgarlitz was right that Crean made sure the other team knew he does not tolerate that and I am sure Matt would do the same thing.

You are correct. I suspect Tomlinson is pissed. Not the place and time for uncontrolled public access!
