I'm biased but come on... he looked better, IMO, against Vandy's projected lottery pick big man than he did last night. Hammons should hang this on his locker for extra motivation.

"1. Hammons domination tonight was a testament to how dog shit he was in his first three years at Purdue. The kid has all the talent in the world, yet had to hang around for years to show it. I do give him credit for dominating Happ, Illikainen and Thomas. As long as those guys are in the NBA next year, Hammons will be a great pro."

Gotta give him credit for this at least

"Purdue is bigger, better and more experienced than us. They basically did what they wanted all game and we made some typical youthful mistakes. We basically lost because we're not as good as Purdue."

Eh. One anonymous guy on a message board. If the lure of playing professionally isn't enough motivation for AJ then a post on an opposing message board wouldn't push it over the top either. He certainly overstates how bad AJ was in his first three seasons. Inconsistent? Yeah. Bad? I wouldn't say so. Maybe this guy only caught a few of his bad games (which would make sense if he was remembering Hammons matched up with Kaminsky who I assume was a matchup problem for AJ just like he was for everyone else).

Badger fans know better. Check out the career stats of Kaminsky. Frank the tank was Frank the role player his first 2 years.

At least he didn't stick a "d" on the end of Hammons.

Eh, it's just a juvenile post-loss reaction. Hammons kicked their ass, so since the dude can't criticize him in the realm of basketball, he moves to a moral criticism--"he was too lazy to play that well his first three years." It's silly.

I really struggle with the "AJ had to be a four year player" criticism. I never recall seeing him rated higher than about #70 as a recruit. There are tons of kids in the B1G who were rated much higher that ended up being 4 year players. Hell, Plumlee was rated much higher than Hammons, played for a team that won a title, and may not even enter the draft.
Hammons got a bad rep because he prison raped the great Cody Zeller his freshman year so he must be a prodigy. Then Hammons ends up having a decent freshman year with some ups and downs and people are all over him. BREAKING NEWS: Cody Zeller sucks. He thrived at cherry picking on fast breaks and shooting free throws.
I for one have been very happy to have AJ and I enjoyed watching him develop his game. I think we as Purdue fans should stand behind him at all times because the media and other fans bases will rip him any chance they get. Much easier to stand behind him when he puts up numbers like he has been too:eek:

If you look at the freshman AJ and the senior AJ you have to give a lot of credit for the changes he has made as he has matured physically and emotionally and the way his game has changed over 4 years. Part of the delayed development was the lack of quality supporting cast for much of that period.

Hold on a minute... are you talking about the game where Hammons scored 30 and Purdue got absolutely drilled on its home floor? If that was a "prison rape", that would have to be the most welcomed prison rape on record, because IU let Hammons have at least half of those points because they didn't want Zeller in foul trouble. IU was ringing up 3's all night and were content with trading 2's for 3's. For all Crean's idiot coaching moves, even he was smart enough to recognize that Zeller had to be on the floor for them to win.

Yes, Hammons still had to convert all those buckets, but IIRC, he wasn't exactly fighting through a steel curtain to get them. I don't think any national guys looked at that 1 game and thought "prodigy", rather they saw great potential; if they thought he was a prodigy, it was because he was a highly skilled big man in HS with excellent hands who was a McDAA nominee.

Ok, here are a few things A.J. did during his first three seasons at Purdue:

- Led B1G in blocked shots in 2013, 2014, and 2015 (just the third player to do that).*
- 15 double-doubles in his first 3 years.
- One of two freshmen nationally to average 10 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks per game in 2013.
- Averaged 12.4 points in B1G games as a sophomore; led the B1G in double-doubles in conference games.
- All-B1G honorable mention and All-B1G defensive team as a sophomore.
- Second team All-B1G as a junior.
- Averaged 12.6 points, 7.3 boards, and 2.8 blocks per game as a junior.
- Short 59.7% from the field in league games as a junior.

- First B1G player in 35 years (3rd overall) to score 1000 points, grab 600 boards, and block 250 shots by the end of his junior season.**

I'll be the first to acknowledge that A.J. has had his problems with consistency, but, man, that is some dog shit!

Juan Johnson and PSU's Calvin Booth were the others.
**Joe Barry Carroll and OSU's Herb Williams were the others.

I admit there have been times when he has frustrated the hell out of his fans. He shows flashes of brilliance the disappears. This year he seems to realize the lottery ticket he's been holding all this time. He should be all big this year and a candidate for player of the year. Of course this means he has to keep playing like he has been. NBA first rounder next year.

I don't really think this year has anything to do with being a lottery pick. I think this year is his year to show his maturity and be a leader. Remember that for all of his physical gifts he came from an all world prep program that did nothing to develop his game instead showcasing breakaway dunks and flashy guard play. He now has accepted the role of the old man and you see him talking to his teammates. I think Haas has had a lot to do with his development and brought the leader out in him.

Confucius says "Don't listen to a Wisconsin ass-it-all fan who has cheese for brains."
Isn't that where the Cheeseheads name came from?

I've used this one before:

THE LION AND THE ASS
ONE day as the Lion walked proudly down a forest aisle, and the animals respectfully made way for him, an Ass brayed a scornful remark as he passed.

The Lion felt a flash of anger. But when he turned his head and saw who had spoken, he walked quietly on. He would not honor the fool with even so much as a stroke of his claws.

Do not resent the remarks of a fool. Ignore them.

one idiot. Most wisky fans are cool and their women can drink most guys under a table. Fun to party with.

I always recall the ladies of Wisconsin as being well endowed and very friendly. I don't think I could ever knock their campus either.

They do tend to be on the larger side though....
My recall dates back more than a few years. Maybe the world in Wisconsin has changed some. I just recall all those German milk-maid types with slim waists, blond hair and perky... assets. Those assets were coupled to a "BB in a boxcar" like brain, but that's okay for what it was. That was a lovely time for me. I did enjoy going to Madison... many times..

Yea times have changed. There are no more "German milk-maids" and slim waists are a thing of the past there. It is a very fun campus but the women drink large amounts of beer and show it.

Nobody seems to remember in his first two years the whole team was dis functional and the starting PG wasn't into helping anyone else to showcase their game. A amazing how far he's come now that others realize how good he is and try to get him the ball.
