Will Xavier be firing their coach?

xavier's loss was a stunner. but they should never have let Kaening beat them like that. Remy Abel was terrible defending him late in that game. No wonder IU got rid of Abel, he was awful on those last two Kaening shots. He was ok for most of the game and then he choked just like all kids that go to IU do , they choke. IU puts a eerie spell on them and they all choke.

My entire point was with all these upsets. You fire a coach for not making the tournament. Not for getting upset in the tournament. All those Fire Painter posters all over social media. You are not getting Painter fired. What you are doing is hurting Painters ability to recruit the needed players to make a deep run. As that Doyel article from Indystar pointed out. So congratulations Purdue Fire Painter fans for possibly cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Painter has 3 years on his current deal. He will on paper have good teams the next 2 years. If the team underperforms after the 2nd year. Then Purdue will have to decide to fire Painter rather then leave him as a lame duck. So.... After 11 years surely you can put up with Painter for another 2 years giving him 2 years to make a good run in the tourney. That's why i have no issue with Painter. He recruited the current players to play for his team.

Wisky went on what 12-4 run late? 2 seed Xavier was in the top 5 all year...

Xavier, Michigan St., West Virginia, Utah, Kentucky, Cal. All teams with higher seeds than Purdue that got bounced this weekend. Notre Dame needed a buzzer beater to get past Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M needed a miracle comeback in the final minute to force OT and beat Northern Iowa. Shit happens in the tourney even to the best of teams.

Shit happens. When it happens consistently, it's just shit.

Mack is my favorite coach in the Midwest.

Jim Calhoun questioned Purdue's tactics down the stretch
So did Painter in retrospect. Painter said he made mistakes too.

Easy to arm-chair this one. A lot tougher to be there on the bench, at the moment, trying to get your kids to play aggressively at the end of the game. At least he tried to get his PG's attention, to get them to attack the press. It didn't work, but he didn't just sit there like a lump and let it happen.

I am shocked! Shocked! I thought losing big leads at the ends of games only happened to Purdue. I thought being upset by a lesser seed was only something that regularly happens to only Purdue. How dare some other school steal our reasons for self-pity! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

Only our sad excuse for athletic programs would let such a thing happen! OMG!

Did you see Duke squander a 27 point lead to... Yale??? Who? Yale??? OMG! Another school trying to steal our reasons to quarrel over our overly stubborn coach and our bottom of the barrel 10th ranked basketball team. Who the heck do these guys think they are?

Personally I didn't say Painter didn't make mistakes. Over at the other Purdue site a media member at game stated Purdue was bigger but ARK guards looked more athletic. He said in the middle of second half Painter tried to matchup with Ark after Ark started increasing the defensive pressure. No doubt in hindsight that was a mistake. However my argument is Painter made this coaching miscue because he did not have faith in his backcourt to handle Ark pressure. Purdue lacked a good PG and it screwed this team up all year from being a really really good team.

I watched the other tourney games and let's be real here. The starting guards on Purdue compared to Tourney team guards were subpar. Now that's on Painter for not getting this issue fixed. In that Doyel column he stated Painter told him privately they need better playmakers. Yeah Purdue and Painter screwed this game up. But in the BIG BIG picture with this issue showing up in the Ark game. I just am not convinced they were going to make this Final 4 run alot of fans think they were going to make. We will never know but call me skeptical.

Pretty much everyone on here before the season started said that the PG spot was our biggest concern this season and that, along with your post, is spot on.

The people who want Painter fired are tired of watching Purdue lose the same way over and over again. Rarely, does Purdue get beat by the other team. They mostly beat themselves with turnovers, mental mistakes, and tentative play.

Same can be said for a plethora of other schools. Theven situation you describe is not even remotely unique to Purdue.

What other Big Ten teams consitently blow double digit leads and turn the ball over nearly 20 times in losses?

Well I did say other schools, which means not limiting it to just the B1G since there are more than just what is in our conference.

I guess I'm not concerned with other teams outside of our conference because they have so little effect on Purdue. I'm sure teams like Buknell and Pepperdine blow leads and have trouble breaking the press but they aren't a serious Final Four contender.

Purdue blowing these leads with the talent they have is a big deal.

Does it matter if you blow games because of turnovers rather than getting consistently beaten on the boards or consistently being poor defensively because every team has reasons it loses games.

Purdue has been very soft mentally the last few years. They have been known to play "not to lose" rather than playing to win. I haven't seen the fire or intensity I am used to seeing in past years.

Don't agree with this at all. I believe our lack of playmakers at the guard position has done us in against good teams in close games.

Losing to Wisky is a lot different than losing to UALR
It's about match ups. We beat Wisky twice because we can counter their strengths. We struggled against perimeter shooters with penetration abilities. We would struggle with IU if we met again but maybe dealt with UVA because their are a style we can match.
