Will Trump's strategy work?

Trump has created a younger, more energized, and more engaged electorate. This is only going to become more pronounced before 2020.

This fearmongering and nationalism is going to be the death of the GOP.
I would say more vocal. Trumphas energized the far-left more than anyone else, but he’s also energized the R base big-time. He can talk about the economy, R judges and Kavanaugh, the wall and illegal immigration and it will play well with the R base.

If the left was thinking about Trump taking down the Rs, don’t you think the blue wave would have materialized? It didn’t. We have a highly polarized electorate. Now we will likely have a more polarized Congress too. Warning to the Ds - running on resisting Trump and not governing is a dumb strategy. If the Ds don’t try to get things done legislatively, it will come back to bite them in 2020. In 2020 it will be about the economy.

Beto terrifies the GOP, and for good reason.
No he doesn’t. If he can’t beat a marginally popular Cruz, how could he win the Presidency? He has left-wing whacko ideas that don’t play well with the majority of America and American districts. Selling socialism in a good economy is really stupid.

lol these wildly divergent speculations are fun.

Agree. Not a blue wave, but a pretty above average night for D's and a disappointing night for R's, but it could have been much worse...and a few silver linings like FL.

Will be interesting to see what plays out in 2020 when R's are on the defensive in the Senate with many more of their seats are up.
Slightly above average in the House for the Ds. Below average/bad in the Senate. About as expected for governorships. The new media darlings (Gillum, Abrams, O’Rourke) all lost. Ocasio was already a shoo-in in her Progressive paradise.

I will believe that when I see it.
It won't make a difference with the base, people like SDboiler and hulkgolden will excuse absolutely anything. Showing the corruption out in the open will energize the Democratic base and will have independents turn away from the Republican misconduct.

I think any more investigations will be detrimental to the Dems. How much longer should this one go on and how many more investigations are needed?
It may happen but unless something is found that hasn't already surfaced, which shows nothing against Trump, it will only harm the D party.

How did Benghazi work for the Republicans? There was absolutely nothing to it but they were able to use the investigation to turn people away from Clinton.

Indy, can we agree on one thing....America was/is tired of the Clinton's. They've become insignificant in all ways, though Hillary may be the sacrificial lamb in 2020 because there are no legit nor electable Democrat's against Trump in 2020.

Right.

My turnoff with Clinton was more the emails and carelessly flouting security rules that are in place to help preserve American lives. Benghazi never moved the political needle for me in any way.

I didn't like the double down on the lie by throwing the film maker in jail.
That's a little over the top for me.

Benghazi may not have particularly moved the needle for you, but it was a piece of the puzzle that Tramp created of his "Crooked Hillary" persona. IIRC, he invited the widow of one of the fallen soldiers to sit front and center at one of the debates (Don't quote me on that though, I could be wrong. I'll check on this later). He wouldn't do that if he didn't think it would garner him some votes.

So he was arrested an

So he was jailed for making the film. What part of the story refutes what I claimed?
You act like it was a conspiracy of the Obama administration. There were more than 50 deaths and hundreds of injuries as a result of the protests. That's real. You said he was jailed because the administration was doubling down on a lie. That is completely false.

Did he personally kill any of these people? Were any of these deaths in the US? So the guy doesn't like Muslims and makes a movie about it. Many movies have been that have anti-Christian themes. Where were the violent protests? Where was the jail time and probation for these movie makers. Did Christians riot over the crucifix in urine?
Now I don't agree with anyone making a movie to degrade any religion, however since when it is a crime?

Why can't you just admit that you were wrong in your assertion?

Until they actually get a job and pay taxes and how much of there income they want to keep. And the future they want for there kids.

Hillary blamed it on some bullshit video, they perpetually rationalize anything islamic no matter what. They killed Americans and the Clinton run state department buried there heads in the sand! She was worthless as usual.

Just curious, you think Hillary is innocent of negligence? She rationalized that uprising and blamed it on a bull shit video. I don't give a shit about Wikipedia. This was not a spur of the moment uprising. It was an attack on our embassy.

So much ignorance packed into one post.

Yes, all young people are jobless and lazy. Really deep critical thinking skills there.

No worse then saying white males are the problem in America and that women who vote R are their enablers. No stereotypes there? You didn’t say this but a well-known guy on CNN did. He’s a racist but we can’t say that because he’s AA.

Truth is, there is hypocrisy on both sides. You happen to care more about R hypocrisy and I focus more on D hypocrisy. ;)o_O

You said hundreds were killed or injured because of the video that instilled riots. That's why he was thrown in jail, or at least initially put on probation. Since when is it a crime for someone to express themselves in this country, have people riot and kill each other in another country, and it be a crime in the US.
The bottom line is the guy created a stupid video, the Obama adm blamed the Benghazi debacle on the video. The guy that made the video was thrown in jail shortly after the Obama adm made that accusation. Just connect the dots.

Beto ran a pretty clean campaign, staying positive and consistent with a unifying message. Raised a lot of money from individual contributions.

Close doesn't count.......but to come that close to beating an established pub in Texas without getting in the gutter is impressive. He's going to be around for awhile. I found his message very refreshing.

I thought so originally but was wrong on him.

In the last TX Senate debate he stooped down to Trump/Cruz levels. Big mistake and he fell in polls after that. He made the same mistake Rubio made. Not sure why some of the cleaner cut, easier going, at least somewhat pleasant to hear from politicians decide to try to combat Cruz/Trump with their tactics. They get killed with it and look stupid in the process. It is just not them.

National media sold him as a common sense centrist. He is really just to the right of the radical left. I thought he was more independent/center left but that is not the case.

As far as money raised I think a lot of these candidates should learn that
celebrities and former politicians do not equal success in an election

As for Beto and money that is turning out to be a bit of a falsehood. He raised more total than Cruz, but in TX when one looks at itemization of donation Cruz did better.

Beto got a lot of money from deep blue states. Not sure that helps much in a Presidential election. Those are states that are going blue anyway. And in another accounting game, while technically Beto did not take money from PAC's, the PAC's simply encouraged their members and people that donated to them to individually donate to Beto instead.

Well, after hearing all of this talk on a blue wave, and how since 2000 the party in power seemed to get roughed up a bit in midterms, Republicans did pretty well. Held the Senate which was not done in 2010 or Obama's first midterm.

I did not vote straight ticket. About 2/3 Republican. That said, now that the Dems have the House, I am going to need to hear something more than 'now we can investigate' and 'get tax returns'. Not holding my breath.

Kansas is a conservative state, but not an angry state. Kobach is not a happy guy.

Read that two previous Republican Governors and roughly 30 Republican state legislators endorsed the Democrat. Good for them. Wish we would see more of that.

Beto O’Rourke for President? You’ve got to be joking. Trump will win in 2020 and oddly enough the Ds will help him do it. They seem insistent on trying to take down Trump instead of actually trying to govern and get things done. Resistance is a strategy for losing but one the Ds seem to want to do.

Two years is a longtime in politics. Lot can change in that time.

All of that said, I think the one candidate that could win for the Dems is Hickenlooper. CO has had a pretty good run under his watch. He will have to combat the skyrocketing liabilities pension issue.

But he has a lot of experience, will stay composed, and people seem to like him. I think a lot of these other candidates(Sanders, Warren, Harris, Spartacus, and now Beto) pretty much will run themselves out of the presidency. They would win the deep blue states and that is it.

Can't win em all. Dems won far more than they lost, including a lot of flips last night.

Only going to cascade further over the next two years as more of the electorate sours on Trump's bullshit.

I mean, if you keep repeating it, evantually one of these years you will be right.

That was supposed to happen this time, it did not.

Dems would be better to streamline their message and present plans. 'We will get the tax returns and do an investigation' is not a plan or message that will win.

Republicans hate when all votes are counted. They really hate when people vote which is why they try so hard to keep people from doing so.

Contingency votes aren't legally recognised votes. These votes are put in a secure location and opened, if needed, and counted once the voter is proven to be properly registered and identified. Votes found in a trunk of your car, under a spare tire or in a class room aren't legally recognized votes.
A chain of custody for legally recognized votes is required.

Wow. Snipes not allowing oversight in after a court ruling earlier this afternoon. Like I said earlier, so brazen and out in the open.
