Will Painter use the lackluster effort at Mich as motivation or do you not need motivation when it's iu and a B10 title riding on the game?

I'd love to see the Boilers jump out to an early lead with a barrage of 3's and just keep pouring it on from there.
I know Painter doesn't intentionally run up the score, but maybe this game would be the exception. A few years ago, with Zellar and Olidipo, Crean ran it up on the Boilers at Mackey. Hope Painter repays the favor.

I think it's going to be a tough game for 30-35 minutes, but CMP has too much class and respect for the tradition of IU basketball to run it up if it comes to that point. Besides, wouldn't it be more painful for Tan Man to see Tommy Luce and company on the court wrapping up #23?

We all want to see Purdue win by 40+. I think we need to keep in mind that IU is a talented team. Certainly one with flaws but still talented. Even if we show up motivated and play well, IU is capable of playing with us if they also play well. This isn't a game where Purdue can just will itself to a blowout win. They'll need to play well and get some cooperation with some poor play from Indiana to make that happen. I expect to get a strong effort from them because this is their Super Bowl. After Tuesday, what do they have to look forward to during the rest of their season? Nothing. Tuesday they'll have a chance to spoil the season of their rival and I think they'll play well in trying to accomplish that.

I agree with TC4THREE.

Despite their almost unimaginable collapse, Indiana is still a very talented team playing in a rivalry game. Controlled aggression is the key for Purdue. Play smart. Force Indiana into turnovers. Get guys like Bryant and Newkirk into foul trouble. Be patient on offense; work for the best shot.

I won't be surprised if Indiana leads during portions of this game. They know what's on the line as much as we do.

Just play hard; play smart. Don't worry about blowing them out. Value each possession. Dig in on defense; defend the arc.

I think Purdue can win this game by double digits.

The best case scenario, everyone goes off tomorrow
Biggie gets 30-30
Haas shoots 3
Kill IU on first half and we lead by at least 20
McKeeman Dunks
Tommy scores
Dakota and Cline hits every single one
PJ shoots half court or even full court
Brothers gets their career high, at least 30 each
Spike does what Wagner did at Assembly

I think Purdue will win by 30. IU has almost nothing for them, especially away from Gloomington.

Painter needs to remind the team that IU and Crean was more than willing to put it to them in Mackey a bit ago. It is time for repayment. After establishing an insurmountable lead he should then clear the bench and make sure everybody gets in the game.

I don't really get the idea of "pissed off" or "emotional" mode from the players. If you are good or talent enough, you don't really need to be pissed off to play well. If you really need to be pissed off to play well, then just get upset with every single game or think "you will lose your parents if you lose this game" if it helps.

You lose because you are not good enough.

What a giant over-simplification of something clearly you are missing the point on. Playing with emotion or playing better, or worse, because of it is most certainly a real thing.

Then what stop you from playing with emotion? The only reason I can see is that you don't care about winning then you don't play with emotion. The team obviously cares about winning.

IU has a lot of talent. I think Purdue wins...and happy if they do whether 1 pt or 15pts

Like the majority of our games against talented teams, it boils down to the number of easy points we give up (layups, dunks and FT) and how well we shoot from 3: (i.e. how well we keep them out of the paint)

If IU gets under 32 of these kinds of points and we shoot 50 plus from 3 - Purdue wins BIG !
If IU gets under 32 of these kinds of points and we only shoot 40 percent from 3 - Purdue wins by single digits
If IU gets between 32 & 38 of these kind of points & we shoot 50 plus from 3 -Purdue wins by single digits, in a dog fight
If IU gets between 32 and 38 and we shoot 40-45 percent from 3 - It's a coin flip
If IU gets over 38 of these points, or . . shoots 55% from 3, we lose.

The key wild card for each scenario: Bryant has to stay on the floor in order for IU to have "any" shot.

Obviously hoping for the first scenario & that they haven't been watching tape from the Penn State and Michigan games !

If you've ever played competitive sports, you know that you can ratchet up your effort a little bit when needed. You might not do that every game and sometimes you need a coach or teammate to call you on it. That's what I'm referring to.
Not saying the guys didn't play hard at Mich, but playing with and edge against iu might allow them to bury them early.

IU is much more dangerous when Bryant is the hot hand and run the offense through him. As good as Biggie can be on defense, Bryant is much more athletic on the offensive side of the ball.

Thankfully, IU is coached by Tom Crean and JBJ is still a starter.
