Why not establish a home and away relationship with University of Cincinnati or Louisville instead
so that fans from both schools could travel and attend?

Like Nat said, it was already scheduled a long time ago but I really like your idea. Those are close teams and at least good enough to get both fan bases excited to watch

Burke scheduled it as a favor to Bill Polian when his son was HC of NV. Don't worry, the "series" is over as of 8/31/19

The home/away contracts with Vandy and TCU do not finalize till we visit them in 2029 & 2030. Its crazy. The players that will be in those games are in elementry school now?I wish college football was able to schedule only 1-2 yrs in advance like basketball does.

I was told that it is because AD's have a fear that not agreeing to long term home/away matchups might force them to schedule FCS opponents just to fill up dates. The college bowl series will never accept a team with an FCS opponent on the schedule-and there is a finite number of non-conference P5 programs available. Its a "catch 22" situation

I don’t understand the gripe here. Purdue plays 80% of its games within a couple hundred miles of campus. Nevada isn’t exactly a hotbed of Purdue grads, but I am totally on board with one game a year that appeals to the national alumni base and a broader audience outside of our region.

Not exactly convenient for most people living in Nevada as they live in Las Vegas which is a 440 mile drive away and takes 6-7 hours on a mainly 2-lane highway. It's probably almost as convenient to fly to Indianapolis and then the drive to Purdue and take in a home game. However, it is about half that drive from the San Francisco Bay Area. Hoping that Purdue might play in Las Vegas for that new bowl game to be held in the new Raiders stadium.

Didn’t bama play an fcs school 2 years ago en route to winning it all?

Generally a Power 5 program doesn't play an away game at a lower tier conference opponent. Makes no sense...

Ok, but that wasn’t the complaint.

The "complaint" is what makes the complaint the most valid, when said complainant makes said complaint. Furthermore, said complaint can be changed to make said complaint MOST VALID as to have the greatest impact, even if said complaint needs to be amended to be more impactful as a complaint, at a later date.

All of this, of course, can be change and amended at any point in time, so as to make the greatest impact.

My own opinion is that I love this game on the schedule. It's a winnable game on the road to start a stretch that only gets harder. To me it's the perfect way to start the season. I would much rather see a game like this against a new opponent as opposed to another Michigan directional school. Also we did play home and home vs Cincinnati a few years back and we played Louisville 2 years ago. You can't really go down the same road (pun not intended) every year. Yeah Nevada isn't that good but the way schedules are made so many years in advance who's to know? They had a couple good years back in Kaepernick's time. Maybe that's when we scheduled this one lol.

My head hurts now.
Not playing G5 on the road = reasonable complaint
Not playing games that people from Indiana can’t drive to = weak complaint
Two different topics. The OP specified the latter.

I for one think playing at Nevada is not the game I want on the schedule. Figures Burke had something to do with that. I can think of so many better relevant opponents to open the season with. I am predicting the attendance at the game will be miserable. Hopefully it is a win and we move on, but it feels more like a "pre-season" game than a real game to me.

This is a Morgue early bird special. He wanted a place the blue hairs could go to gamble

Who did we owe when Morgue agreed to start a season at Marshall?
I didnt have a problem with Burke entering into a contract with Marshall. They agreed to play at RA in 2012(PU won). And the return game was a nationally televised Fox game to open the season in 2015. Marshall was and is an upper tier Conference USA team. It would be similar to Wash, BYU or Cal having a home/away series with Boise St (upper tier Mountain West) team.

But this series with NV Reno is a head scratcher? Lower tier Mountain West school who we are forced to play at their rinky dink 27k stadium? Its a trap game as far as I'm concerned. I seriously doubt they are paying us anywhere close to our expenses to go there either. I think we paid them close to $ 500,000 to play here in 15'

Do you really think UM will EVER play a return game at App St?? or FL ever reciprocate a game at Charleston Southern??, Mich St or TN are not going to play at W KY either.

Burke was and still is a joke....

Well first of all, Purdue is not Michigan or Florida. When we start winning 10 games a year maybe we can be more choosy in our opponents. Remember some of these games that we have are based on the B1G stressing against playing FCS schools, and also Notre Dame giving us the boot.

Second, while Nevada is not upper-echelon by any means, they are far from Charleston Southern, which isn't even FBS. App St wasn't FBS when Michigan lost to them. I think they are now?

App St should have beaten psu last year too.

I went to the season opener at USC when Brees was a Sophomore. Even though we lost, it was a good trip and a good opening opponent. Los Angeles JPC hosted a nice pre-game tailgate party too.

While I wish it was UNLV, I don't mind this game at all. It'll be cool with it being on a Friday night and there will be more people watching on TV than a noon home game against Ball State. I think it's fun playing schools in different regions that we aren't used to. I loved the Oregon series even though we went 0-2.
Oregon series was good to play, as far as different regions go, would love to play Colorado or the Utes.

Respectfully, you're attempting to have a logical interaction (your last post) vis-a-vis an emotional post (re Burke).

Simply put, there are some people that have such visceral hatred for Burke that you'd be better off talking to the wall. It's unfortunate.
